The next meeting of the Five -Year Planning group will be Tuesday, October 17 . Mr. Adams reported on
the meeting with Pat Wagner on September 6. He said that the presentation far exceeded his
expectations. He felt several good points were raised by Ms. Wagner about where the library might find
itself in five or ten years . It was noted that the intent of the Five -Year Planning was to make
recommendations for the Library's future. A discussion followed about the feasibility of changes within the
library given technological changes and behavior pattern changes. The committee will use input from the
budget and community focus groups to form its' recommendations.

Mr. Long said that the 2007 Budget Proposal will be discussed at the upcoming City Council Retreat on •

departments . If this occurs Mr . Long indicated he would possibly take that 1 % out of the book budget for
2007.

Mr. Long mentioned the school program survey that had been included in the Board packet ; this survey

public and pri vate schools.

for movies and TV show videos. (for example PBS series).
Mr. Adams said he had not iced many patrons in the Library using their cell phones to text message.
Schools are regulating this with students and he asked what the Library's experience had been. Mr. Long
said that the primary reason that there is no cell phone use in the Library is due to noise when patrons are
talking on the phone . This becomes a disturbance to others in the Library. Text messaging on the other
hand is non intrus ive to other patrons.
