HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-02-13 PLB MINUTES• • Englewood Public Board Call To Order/Roll Call 1000 Englewood Parkway, Engl ewood, CO 80110 303 -762-2560 Voic e 303-783-6890 FAX Minutes Englewood Public Library Board February 13, 2007 Chairperson , Mark Adams at 7:07 p.m, called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to order. PRESENT: M. Adams , Margaret Freeman , J. Grazulis , T. Kruk, K. Pilgrim , Y. Russe ll, and Council Member , Ray Tomasso. ABSENT: L. Cahill , C . Ransick , B . Williams , and School Board member, Sherry Scaggiari ALSO PRESENT : Unscheduled guest , Phil Russell , Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton , Recording Secretary. Prior to the beg inning of the meeting new Board member, Thomas Kruk was welcomed to the Board. 07 -04 Motion: That the minutes of the January 9 , 2007 meeting be accepted as written . Moved by: Margaret Freeman Seconded by: Karen Pilgrim The Motion passed . The next meeting of the Friends of the Library is Wed . February 28 at 7 p.m . The Annual Spring Book Sale will take place on Thursday, March 1 from 4 - 7 p.m .; Friday , March 2 from 10 a .m . - 2 p.m . and Saturday, march 3 from 10 a .m . - 2 p.m. The time of the Book Sale on March 1 st coincides with the Englewood School's Art Show Artist Reception wh ich is held from 4:30 -6:30 p.m. The Englewood Schoo l art will hang in the Library for the month of March . The Five Year Planning Committee is ready to go out to 8 different focus groups in the community over the next few months and collect information about how the community sees the Library. A brief overview of the Five Year Planning Committee was reviewed for Mr. Kruk 's benefit. Mr. Adams said that the Committee is ready to gather more feedback from groups in the community. It will be interesting to hear if there is addit ional feedback other than the feedback already collected from our in-house surveys done in November and January, The question was asked as to who are the focus groups . Mr. Adams said that focus groups are composed of community members , tax payers, not just library users. An attempt has been made to get a good mix of individuals from the community. Further background about the surveys and projects for the year were discussed . A special Children 's program will be held on Saturday, February 17 in Hampden Hall with the children 's author , Avi. A short cookie and punch reception will be held in the Story Time Room after the program while Avi signs books for the audience . Mr. Long said that the Historic Photos are now available online . It is the hope that having the historic photos available will prompt more donations of photos from the community of historic value . • Upcoming events at the Library were discussed . Dates of the Adult W inter Reading program were noted, - 1 - February 5 -March 21 , 2007. The Meet the Faces Behind the Books, author open house is coming on Sunday, April 15 from 1 - 3 p.m. The Library's annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception is to be held on • Saturday, May 5 . This year over 140 volunteers and 40 benefactors will be recognized. Summer Food for Fines will be from May 29 -June 10. Members Choice Ms. Russell related her experience on the ski slopes at Keystone a few weeks ago that resulted in her being hit by a snowboarder and breaking her leg. She has been hobbling around with crutches . She said she was glad to be out of the house. Her husband said he was with her on the slope when she was hit and that it was a rough experience. Ms. Grazulis has a new job at the Colorado Antique Gallery on South Broadway. This weekend she and her family are involved in the AKC show. Her daughter will be showing her own dogs as well as other people's dogs for them. She is busy, busy. Ms. Freeman said she would not be at the March Library Board meeting. She also said she would not be here for the author open house in April as she is going to be in Paris . Mr. Tomasso said he would not be at the March meeting as he will be representing the City Council in Washington D .C . at the National League of Cities. His house is now on a foundation, something it has not been on for 50 years. The roof deck is also on. Mr. Tomasso handed out cards to an art showing he is in at ZIP, a gallery in Denver. He and his wife recently had a house guest, a student from the Univ . of Nebraska, who is from Latvia. It was a very interesting time. Ms. Clayton said she would not be at the Volunteer Appreciation reception as it is the same day as the MS Walk which she has participated in for over 10 years. Mr. Adams said it is now less than 8 days to baby boy #3! The bathroom remodel is finished. Family begins arriving this week. Mr. Kruk said he is glad to be on the Board. He called himself a "Library Junkie". He has visited libraries all over the state as he has traveled with his job. He said he is slowly redoing a bathroom in his home . Progress is being made, slowly! Ms. Pilgrim said her son is in his last semester of college and looking for jobs . Emily , her daughter is very happy at CU , Denver. All is good. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. -2 - • •
