MINUTES
Tuesday, October 9, 2007
7: 00 p.m. -Library Board Room
I. CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairperson Margaret Freeman called the meeting to order at 7:00 p .m.
II. ROLL CALL
PRESENT: Lorraine Cahill, Margaret Freeman, Julie Grazulis, Rebecca Laughlin , Karen Pilgrim, Yvonne Russell , Bervette
Williams and City Council Liaison Ray Tomasso
REGRETS : Mark Adams (excused), Thomas Kruk (excused), Chris Ransick (excused), Englewood Schools Liaison Sherry
Scaggiari and Board Secretary Joan Clayton (excused)
ALSO PRESENT : Library Director Hank Long (acting as Board Secretary for meeting)

OLD BUSINESS
•
07-22 Motion That the minutes of the September 11, 2007 meeting be accepted as written.
Moved by Yvonne Russell and Seconded by Lorraine Cahill, the Motion passed unanimously.
The Monthly Statistical & Financial Reports were not available for the meeting but will be available in the next packet.
Mr. Long went over his previous memo concerning the 2008 Budget. He was asked if the Library had experienced personnel
reductions in 2007 and responded that, although there was turnover in several staff positions , these had been filled and that the
Library had not reduced its staffing level for the past several years. For 2008, however, the staffing level will drop by 1.75 FTE as
one full -time and two-part time positions were eliminated in order to reach mandated expenditure cuts.
Mr. Long also thanked Ray Tomasso for his help in having the $7,000 in the Bookmobile Donor 's Fund returned to the Library for
Children 's Services .
Mr. Long also reminded the Board members about the upcoming meeting with City Council at their 6:00pm Study Session on
Monday, November 5 to present the Library 's Long Range Plan 2008-2012. He encouraged everyone to attend if possible.
The Board agreed to keep the "Library Staff Appreciation Luncheon " for Friday, October 26, recognizing th at there are less
employees present on Fridays. Several Board members will bring in enough food that day so that the weekend staff will be able to
share . Mr. Long thanked the Board on behalf of the Library Staff for continuing this tradition .
The Board members discussed the recent passing of Mayor Olga Wolosyn and shared memories of her and her contributions to the
Englewood community . A sympathy card was passed around and signed by the members present to be sent to her fami ly .

V. NEW BUSINESS
Mr. Long updated the Board on the status of the new public Computer Self-Registration/Self-Pay system that is due to "go live "
on Monday, December 3 . He is working on updating the current Internet Policy to reflect the changes accompanying the new
system and will present that to the Board at their meeting in November. •
Mr. Long also mention that the "weeded" children's books from the recent Friends' Book Sale were donated to the schools on the
Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota, and that the remaining "weeded" adult items will be donated to Fiji for their schools
and libraries, thanks to the work of Ms . Lauglin who has contacts there.
VI. MEMBERS' CHOICE
Ms. Pilgrim said that she and her daughter had a wonderful time in San Francisco recently. She also mentioned that the Junior
Great Books program was staring up again and would keep her busy.
Ms . Laughlin mentioned that "school was getting on " so she's adjusting to the new year ahead.
Ms. Williams says she is "sort of moved" to her new home but was busy with all that goes into preparing her old one for sale . She
said that she was enjoying her new place and new neighbors.
Ms. Cahill said that her new batch of Girl Scouts were "very young" but that she looked forward to working with them .
Ms . Grazulis mentioned her mother was also relocating to a new home . She said that she had had a lot of out-of-town work lately
that was keeping her occupied.
Ms. Russell expressed that "life is good" for herself and her family members .
Mr. Tomasso discussed the Cultural Arts Center proposed for the corner of Broadway and Old Hampden. He also said he recently
met with Chris Ransick regarding his new show at Bel Mar.
Ms . Freeman said that things were "just rolling along."
With no other business at hand, the meeting adjourned at 7:35pm. •
