Board Call To Order/Roll Call 1000 Englewood Parkway, Englewood, CO 80110 303-762-2560 Voice 303 -783-6890 FAX Minutes Englewood Public Library Board November 13, 2007 Chairperson, Mark Adams at 7 :04 p.m, called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to order. PRESENT: M. Adams, L. Cahill , Margaret Freeman , J . Grazulis, T . Kruk, K. Pilgrim, C . Ransick, Y. Russell , B. Williams , Youth Member, B . Laughlin and Council Member, Ray Tomasso. ABSENT: School Board member, Sherry Scaggiari Also Present: Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton, Record ing Secretary. 07-23 Motion: That the minutes of the meeting of October 9, 2007 be approved as written . Moved by: Margaret Freeman Seconded by: Julie Grazulis The Motion passed . Mr. Long thanked Ms . Laughlin and her parents for coming in to the Library last weekend to pick up and move the bo x es of books designated for schools in Fij i. The new rugs purchased wi t h money from the recent Fr iends of the Library Book Sale are in the Children's area and story time room . The nex t Friends' Travel Program will be on Thursday, January 17 , 2008 at 7 p.m . in the Community Room . This program will be "Alaska , Slightly Off the Beaten Path " with Dave & Marilyn Binkley. Mr. Adams sa id that he had been pleased by the meeting with City Council on November 5 to rev iew the Five Year Strateg ic Plan . He said that he felt that the questions directed to the Board members present were well thought out questions and showed interest on the part of the Council members . Feedback from Council was that a lot of hard work had gone into the Strateg ic Plan . The Lib rary staff was very appreciative of the St aff lunch that the Board had provided on October 26 . Kudos to Ms . Russell and others involved. Mr. Long thanked Mr. Tomasso for his help in facilitating the movement of the Bookmobile Funds for use in the Children's area of the Library. Plans are being made for pu rchase of shelving for Children 's CD's, programs and other materials . Children's Book Month is being very well received in the schools. The teachers and children are very pleased with the books given to the classes . Mr. Adams thanked Ms. Freeman for cha iring the October meeting in his absence . He a lso thanked the members for the ir wo r k and efforts toward the success of the Staff Appreciat ion Luncheon. - 1 - C' 07 -24 Motion: That the December meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board be cancelled . Moved by : Yvonne Russell Seconded by: Chris Ransick The Motion passed . After a brief discussion of the Library Board Budget report the following Motion was made . 07 -25 Motion: That $1500 of the remaining money in the Library Board Budget be moved to the Library budget for the purchase of Library materials . Moved by: Lorraine Cahill Seconded by: Julie Grazulis The Motion passed, with Ms . Freeman abstaining . Due to the change from the old "smart card" system to the new patron self reservation I self -pay system the current Public Internet Policy needed updating . A lengthy discussion of wording in the policy followed . 07 -26 Motion: Move to leave the wording on page 2, paragraph 3 as proposed . Moved by : Yvonne Russell Seconded by : Bervette Williams The Motion passed with 7 ayes; 2 no . 07 -27 Motion: Move to accept the proposed Public Internet Policy as written . Moved by: Margaret Freeman Seconded by : Lorraine Cahill The Motion passed with 7 ayes; 2 no . There was brief discussion about the implementation of Wi -Fi. Staff needs to be aware that if patrons are using their laptops without earphones that there may be noise associated with laptop use. Everyone was reminded that Food For Fines begins on Monday, November 26 and ends on Sunday, December 9 . On December 3 all Internet and Word Processing computers will be down for the changeover to the new self -registration I self -pay system . On Tuesday, December 4 the new software will "go live". Members Choice Ms . Russell thanked Mr. Tomasso for his work on City Council. Mr. Tomasso said that the work on his house continues. He passed out cards advertising his newest art show opening. Ms. Williams said she is settling in at the Meridian. Her house is up for sale ; showings are going on, no sale yet. Mr. Ransick said that after the first of the year, be on the lookout for Poetry in Motion . This is a project, he helped spearhead through his post as Denver Poet Laureate, where placards with poems on them are displayed on RTD buses . If you see these poems please let Mr. Ransick know so he can pass along the information to the organizers . Also in the works is a project with Wynkoop Brewing who are discussing brewing a beer for poets. Ms. Freeman said she is waiting for the cold weather to begin! -2 - • • • • • • Ms . Gra zul is than ked Mr. Tomasso fo r his wor k on Council. She ment ioned that her husband would be having shoulder surgery at the end of the month . Mr. Kruk said he is busy with work, family and community projects . Ms. Laughlin sa id she is busy with schoo l. Ms . Cahill said that she had done a tour w ith her Girl Scout troop recently of Old Englewood . The gi rls had enjoyed the information that they had gotten from the Library about the history of Englewood . The tour was very well received by both the girls and the other troop leaders . Ms . Pilgrim said she is very busy with Junior Great Books . The group has just finished "1984" and is mov ing on to "To Kill a Mockingbird ". She recently raked 88 bags of leaves in her yard . Ms . Clayton said she has 17 authors fo r the Author Open House on April 13, 2008 . Mr. Long thanked the Board for their work this year . There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 p.m . - 3 -
