HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-12-13 PLB MINUTESCall To Order/Roll Call 1000 Englewood Parkway, E nglewood, CO 80110 303-762-2560 Voice 303-783-6890 FAX Minutes Englewood Public Library Board December 13 , 2005 Chairperson, Karen Pilgrim at 7:02 p.m, called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to order . PRESENT: M. Adams, CJ Cullinan, J. Grazulis, K. Pilgrim, C. Ransick , Y . Russell, and B. Williams . REGRETS: L. Cahill, (excused), C. McGovern, (excused) and Council Member, Ray Tomasso (excused). ALSO PRESENT : Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton, Recording Secretary. 05 -23 Motion: That the minutes of the November 8 , 2005 meeting be accepted as written. Moved by: Yvonne Russell Seconded by: Mark Adams The Motion passed. The next scheduled meeting of the Friends of the Library is Wednesday January 18, 2006 at 7 p.m. It was noted that the Library Board has approximately $1,000 left in their 2005 budget. 05-24 Motion: That $1,000 from the Library Board Budget be given to the Library staff to purchase materials before December 31, 2005. Moved by: Bervette Williams Seconded by: Chris Ransick The Motion passed. There was a brief discussion about the monthly statistics . Mr. Adams asked for comparisons of the total circulation and number of patrons I visitors going back 3 years. Mr. Long said he would have those at the January meeting. Mr. Long said that the Reference staff would be meeting the next day to discuss how to a lot the $28,000 from the sa le of the Bookmobile. The entire $28,000 will be spent on materials , pr imarily books. The money will be spread out over the entire year of 2006. The Board thanked Ms. Cullinan for preparing the Christmas thank-you cards for the staff. Ms. Pilgr im mentioned that th e Englewood School Board had recently appointed the first V ice -President of t he Sch oo l Board , Sherry Scaggiari to act as the li aison to the Library Board. Ms. Pi lg rim reminded the Board that at t he January meeting a new Library Board Chair and Vice Cha ir will -l - be elected for 2006. Ms. Cullinan's term on the Board expires in Feb. of 2006. She was reminded that if she wishes to re-apply she must write a letter to City Council. Mr. Long said that the Winter Food for Fines brought in approximately $1,651 in food items for lnterFaith Community Services . The Board was very appreciative of the CAL reports from Carol Foreman, Magg ie Goodman and Jane Bigelow that were in the packets for tonight's meeting. Ms. Russell gave an Arapahoe Acres Calendar for 2006 to Mr. Long. Mr. Long said he would give it to Ms. Carol Wilbur for the Local History Collection. Member's Choice Ms . Williams said she and her family had been informed that a peak outside Juneau, Alaska has been named in honor of her husband, George. It will be called Mt. Williams . Mr . Adams said at his house his son is into "tasting " everything. He asked been asked to consider being on the Board of Directors of the National Ski Patrol. Ms . Cullinan passed around a basket of tree ornaments as gifts for the Board . The ornaments, sequined small books are made in India and the sale of the books benefit literacy. Ms. Grazulis said life goes on. The March Hare will be closing Dec. 27. She has started working at Playnix, which after 34 years in business will be closing Dec. 27! Her daughter, Kristen is again the top junior in the United States for Junior Showmanship for dogs . Mr . Ransick said he is looking forward to his son, Sean coming home for the holidays from college. Ms. Clayton said there are now 40 authors signed up for the Open House in April. She asked if the Library Board members would be willing to act as hosts for an author reception prior to the public Open House. The Board agreed that they would be willing to do this. Mr. Long wished everyone a safe and happy holiday season. Ms. Cullinan asked about future long range planning for the Library. Mr. Long said that he would be looking for a facilitator for this in the next year. Ms . Pil grim said she is looking forward to having her son home for the holidays. Her daughter has been accepted by 3 colleges for next fall. Ms . Clayton sa id on February 23rd Reference Librarian, Jane Bigelow and her husband , Robert would be presenting a travel program on Turkey. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m. -2 -
