99 -23 Motion: That the minutes of the meeting of November 9, 1999 be accepted as
written.
Moved by: Sonie Smithers
Seconded by: Lorraine Cahill
The Motion passed.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26 at 6:30 p.m.
Ms. Grazulis gave a brief report from the Cultural Arts Commission. The Museum of Outdoor Art (MOA)
has signed a contract with the City to be included in the new Civic Center. The David Taylor Dance group
will not be in the Civic Center as there were too many issues surrounding the floor support in the building
to accommodate this group. It may be possible for the group to be located in the bottom of the building to
be used by the Balley Health Club. There is an exploratory committee working on Phase 2 of the
CityCenter Development with regard to having a performing arts center.
Ms. Williams commented on the good statistics from the Bookmobile Monthly report .
Ms. Williams noted that the Board had received a nice letter (see attached) from the Englewood High
School chapter of the National Honor Society thanking the Board for their recent donation of $100 for their
Book Drive for elementary and preschool children .
Mr. Long told the Board that under the direction of Ms. Mary Lou Tatum, Outreach Services Librarian, staff
has participated in several adult outreach programs to patients in the Cherry Park Nursing Home. Several

EPL staff have volunteered to go to the nursing home and do an adult story time which has been very well
received.
Mr. Long mentioned that Darrell Chayne; Volunteer Coordinator for the Library is looking for help with Tax
Forms again this year. If any Board Member would like to help please contact Mr. Chayne at 303-762-
2557.
Mr. Long said that with the New Year he has several new assignments as stated in this evening 's Agenda.
The firm of Andrews and Anderson has started work on the Skerritt House . Ms. Grazulis mentioned an
idea similar to one that was done in Russellville, where an historical site is divided into a grid section and
is walked over with a Geiger counter to look for historical artifacts. She said maybe this would help
publicize the Skerritt House project and would need to be done before the site is all torn up.
Mr. Ransick said he had appreciated the handout in the packet regarding a discussion with Judy Blume
and Gail Schoettler. He said he had liked the fact that there had been proposed solutions to objections of
books rather than just objections. He asked for feedback. A brief discussion followed.
Member's Choice
Ms. Clayton wished everyone a Happy Holiday!
Mr. Heberling said that the National Honor Society was very pleased with the response to their holiday
project and hoped the Board would not object to the Honor Society using the Board's money in the future.
Ms. Smithers thanked Ms. Cahill for this evening's cookies. She said she hoped all would have a
wonderful holiday. She noted that past Board member, Sandi Ostema, a neighbor of Ms. Smithers, had
recently moved to Highlands Ranch .
Ms . Belt said she had missed the last Board meeting due to a car accident. She has had a lot of pain and
is currently undergoing therapy. She went on to wish all a Merry Christmas, a holiday that could not be
without the birth of Christ.
Ms . Grazulis said Happy Holidays! Recently her daughter and a friend (Mr. Ransick's daughter) had been
on the computer, and Ms. Grazulis said she had been impressed with the sites the girls accessed.
Mr. Ransick said at his house the computer is on his desk, and when his children are on the computer he
is hovering over them. He mentioned that at Arapahoe Community College he is involved with a Writer's
Club that has taken off with gusto. He said he enjoys the vibrant writing community which is swelling up at
the college.
Ms. Cahill wished everyone a Happy Holiday. She will miss the January Board meeting due to a school
related meeting.
Ms. Williams wished all a Happy Holiday and reminded those with terms expiring to be sure and submit
new applications.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m.

Dear Mrs . Williams :
The Englewood High School Chapter of National Honor Society would like to extend our sincere
thanks for your generous donation towards our book drive . We recognize and appreciate your
efforts to support general education in the community.
The book drive generated over 4 ,400 books . We g ave two books to every third grader in the
Englewood Public School District. We also donated books to many preschoolers, second g~a-~ers
and fourth graders . We are in the process of distributing surplus books to underprivileged
Englewood families and to an Indian reservation in Montana .
• Due to the overwhelming contributions from our student body , we did not find it necessary to spend
your donation on books . However, with your permission we would like to spend the money at a
later time on another NHS community oriented project.
•
Again National Honor Society thanks you for your generosity and support .
Sincerely,
Kristen Gillmon
