Ms. Williams reported that the recent Cultural Arts Commission meeting had been devoted to choosing artwork for the City Calendar for the year 2000. Students from Englewood had submitted artwork for selection from grade kindergarten through 12th grade. Ms . Williams said it was difficult to chose from each category . Comment was made that the statistics from the Clayton School Bookmobile stop were very impressive . It was asked how if there were patrons at the Cherrelyn stop, how could there be no checkout report. Mr. Long explained that sometimes the signal for the Bookmobile Data Radio System could not get through and therefore the statistics are entered at a later stop, e.g. not being counted as Cherrelyn checkouts. Ms. Dounay asked if it would be possible to have statistics for the past 5 years at the December or January meeting. Mr. Long said he would provide that information to the Board at their January meeting. -1 - • • • Mr. Long reported that the recent Budget Retreat had been a very good day for the Library. The photo digitization project should be an exciting project. The $25,000 for the Opening Day collection will be spent entirely on children's and adult I young adult books to have available on Opening Day in the new Library. Ms. Belt commented that the taxpayers of the City should be thanked for voting surplus funds be put into the Budget. New Business Ms. Williams thanked Mr. Long for his information sheet that was in tonight's packet regarding the "Go Ask Alice" website that Ms. Belt had asked to be discussed at the meeting tonight. Ms. Belt handed out typed comments regarding the fact sheet and asked that they be attached to the Minutes. Mr. Long said that the City pays his dues to the American Library Association, as well as dues for the Chair of the Library Board. No money is received by the Library from ALA. Dues include a monthly periodical, "America's Libraries ", access to professional books, posters and other items used by staff. A lengthy discussion about what appeared on the "Go Ask Alice" website followed. Not all those present had viewed the site, so they had to rely on the attached handout passed out by Ms. Belt and Mr. Long for examples. It was agreed that the purpose of examining the site was for discussion only. It was asked if the site provides actual factual information or gratuitous sexual information. This needs to be decided by the individuals viewing the site . A consensus opinion was offered that when these types of information are brought up at future meetings, they be limited to15 minutes or so of discussion. The Board's annual "Staff Appreciatiori' lunch I dinner program will be sometime in April, probably after National Library Week, which is April 10 -15 . Ms. Williams and Ms. Ottoson will coordinate the event. Ms. Smithers volunteered to help Mr. Chayne plan the 1999 Volunteer Recognition Program . Mr. Long reported that he has submitted a grant request to the Colorado Historical Fund for assessment of the Skerritt House. He thanked the Englewood Schools among others for their letters of support for this grant. The City will be doing its own $5,000 assessment of the boundaries of the property, as well as looking for asbestos and other hazardous materials . Mr. Long said that the Colorado Library Association Intellectual Freedom Manual is available on-line. Mr. Long will be chairing the CLA Intellectual Freedom Committee for another year. Member's Choice Ms. Ottoson said she thought a good fundraiser for the Library might be charging a dollar for every minute over the designated 15 minutes of discussion that Members talked on a particular subject. Ms. Dounay mentioned that it was too bad that the Friends or someone hadn't sponsored a City Council Candidate Forum. There will be a School Board Candidate Forum at Sinclair Middle School on Thursday, October 14 from 7 - 9 p.m. Ms. Dounay explained the mill levy increase and what the money would provide for the School District. Mr. Heberling said band is going OK. The band took 2"d place in competition at CU, grand champions at CSU and 3rd out of 12 at the Regional Band Competition. Mr. Long thanked Mr. Heberling for bringing treats to the meeting. Ms. Grazulis mentioned that City Council had approved $250,000 to refurbish the Depot. Hopefully the Book Arts League will be able to use part of the basement. In the Englewood Herald part of Ms. Grazulis' candidate article became switched with that of Ms. Ann Nabholz. Ms. Grazulis also said that Mr. Dick -2 - • • • Dittemore had donated 500 pounds of books to the recent Depot Boxcar sale . The books are being stored in the Depot. People are curious about what is on this web site. Questions about sexuality, sexual health, and relationships are the most carmon types of queries that Alice receives. Canment: I view this as a modern day Ann I.anders on the web. Example under relationships -"Hot Girls on Campus" (attached) sexuality -8 page diatribe on "Genital Wanderings" Too lengthy to hand out (look it up yourself) "What should I do with her breasts" (attached) Page 2 of 2 This is called health education? first rrajor internet health (!) and A site. They call this health education? It appears to me that they are only interested in the sexual or lack of sexual health of this age group. Point out topics that deal with girlfriend-boyfriend -obviously we are not concerned with monogamous, marital relationships here. re: 8 page diatribe Praised and recomnended by: So What? there is a lack of any groups that uphold family , values on that list. Even if they are not funded in this rranner, what chance does a person that has legitirrate concerns have against a well organized, obviously with all the answers organization. I of I ~} ' '-Hot girls on campus? Alice , Where I can meet hot girls on campus? I mean girls who do not mind having some good sex for the sake of sex! I love sex . --Signed , One Horny Columbian Man Interested in Horny Naughty girls Dear One Horny Columbian Man Interested in Horny Naughty Girls, Obviously there is no campus organization entitled "Girls Who Do Not Mind Having Good Sex for the Sake of Sex," so Alice is not in a position to direct you overtly to finding exactly what you want at Columbia . It is up to you to find it through your interactions with different women . Be up front about the fact that you are just looking for sex, so that there will be no misunderstandings . There are many women who are into experimenting while in college , and there's nothing wrong with a one-night stand as long as it's SAFE . Carry condoms with you at all times , because you don't want to be caught off-guard if an opportunity arises . And please make sure that the person you are with is into the same thing you are--that means mutual consent for whatever sex play you have in mind . While you're looking around , you might try those 900 numbers or masturbation to your fantasies of girls who want the same thing you do, to keep you occupied. Whenever we make out, I get the impression that she wants me to do something with her breasts ... but 1 don't have the foggiest what to do . I'm sure that they aren't there strictly for my enjoyment; so, what can I do with my girlfriend that would offer her some pleasure as well? I've tried other sources of infonnation, but most other sources either concentrate solely on the vagina, g-spot, and clitoris , or they simply state that breasts are an erogenous zone and leave it at that. -Clueless in Canada Dear Clueless in Canada, Alice offers her tips --that's TIPS --on breast-play along with this suggestion : go ask your girlfriend how to handle, what is after all, a part of her body, as you so sensitively and respectfully pointed out in your question. As with her ears, lips, shoulders , stomach, hands, feet, yadda, yadda, yadda, you can try the following with breasts --and remember , your partner can help, too : caress cradle stroke dust kiss suck fondle protect tickle jiggle lick jangle massage twist moisten turn blow-dry name hold talk nibble wash burrow woo bounce wann compliment and ... ? How fortunate your girlfriend is to have a companion with the caring and courage to ask such a question .
