MINUTES
Englewood Public Library Board
May 13, 2003
Chairperson, Chris Ransick at 7:23 p.m, called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to
order.
PRESENT: L. Cahill, CJ Cullinan , C. McGovern, K. Pilgrim, C. Ransick, Y. Russell , B. Williams, Youth
Member, Jason Fish, and Council Member, Julie Grazulis (arrived late).
REGRETS: M. Adams, R.Ottoson, and School Board member, Mary Dounay.
ALSO PRESENT: Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton, Recording Secretary.
03 -12 Motion: That the minutes of the meeting of April 8, 2003 be accepted as written .
Moved by: CJ Cullinan
Seconded by: Lorraine Cahill
The Motion passed.
Mr. Ransick changed the order of the Agenda and began the meeting with Member's Choice.
Member's Choice
Ms. Pilgrim said her son has been accepted and will be attending the University of San Diego in the fall.
Ms. Williams said that everything is fine at her house.
Ms. Russell thanked Ms. Williams for her help with the screening of entries for the Englewood Writes
contest. The screening process went well.
Mr. Ransick said he was happy to have gotten his irrigation system going at home.
Ms.Clayton said that she and her team had had a successful MS Walk in Boulder on May 3rd. She thanked
the Board for their support.
Mr. Fish said school is almost over. He is looking for a new part time job. He will be playing baseball this
summer after a family vacation to Chicago.
Ms . Cullinan said that now the EJ2 party is over she would be more involved with the Pain Management
Nurse Chapter of which she is a founding member.
• Ms . McGovern apologized for her "damp" 100 years, 100 books shirt.

Ms. Cahill said at her house she has a very anxious 16 year-old waiting to get her license in 4 days and an •
18 year-old anxious to get out of school.
The next meeting of the friends of the Library will be Wed., May 21 at 7 p.m. at All For the Better ice
Cream Store. The friends held a very successful Bake sale on May 10 1
h. The Bake Sale sold $404 worth
of food, received a $25 donation plus Mile High Coffee has promised the pastry sales from that day to be
given to the Friends.
A new Book Group is being started by a Friends member. The first meeting will be Thursday, May 22 at 7
p.m. in the Fiends/Board room.
On Tuesday, May 20 the Friends in conjunction with Library Programming will present a program,
"Climbing Mt. Everest". This program will be at 7 p.m. in the Community Room.
Mr. Long said that he hoped to have a new statistics format for next month's statistical report. He is
looking at ways to give a keener picture of patron/ staff interaction.
A formal request for reconsideration of the picture book, "King and King" has been received. Three Board
Members need to be willing to serve on a committee to review and recommend action on this book. Those
who volunteered are; Lorraine Cahill, Karen Pilgrim and Bervette Williams. The committee will give their
recommendations at the June 1 O Board meeting.
The Summer Food for Fines program will begin on Tuesday, May 27 and run until Sunday, June 8.
lnterFaith Community Services has been notified, press releases have gone out to the public and posters
have been placed on the Library doors and on the Bookmobile.
Mr. Long thanked those involved with the Englewood Writes contest, Bervette Williams, Yvonne Russell, •
Karen Pilgrim, and CJ Cullinan. He said it was nice to see all the winners at the Birthday celebration,
which had preceded the Board meeting this evening. Arrangements were made to get the awards to the
winners who had not been present. A discussion followed about the contest entries and what to do with
these. It was decided to destroy the non-winning entries. The winning manuscripts will be held for a
month.
Mr. Ransick and Ms. Russell said that they both would be out of town for the June 1 O meeting. Ms.
Cullinan said she would chair the June 10 meeting.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
