PRESENT: L. Cahill , C. McGovern , Fl.Ottoson , K. Pilgrim, B. Williams, School Board member, Mary Dounay, and Youth Member, Jason Fish REGRETS: M. Adams, CJ Cullinan, C. Ransick, Y. Russell, and Council member, Ray Tomasso ALSO PRESENT: Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton, Recording Secretary 03 -24 Motion: That the minutes of the meeting of November 18, 2003 be accepted as written . Moved by: Bervette W illiams Seconded by: Lorraine Cahill The Motion passed. The recent Bake and Book Sale netted the Friends $800 . Mr. Long expressed thanks to all those who supplied items and purchased items. The Friends will sponsor a travel program on January 22 about Japan. On February 26 there will be a program about Brazil. It was noted that the Library Board budget would finish the year with between $200 -$300. Ms. McGovern asked about the number of Library programs for 2002 in the monthly statistical report. It was explained that in 2002 all programs were counted together rather than pulling out children 's, young adults and adult programming. Mr . Long noted for the Board that the Board photos have been hung outside the door to the Board room . Photos of new members will be added. The school principal who had expressed concern about the book , "Book of Coupons" being used for the Battle of the Books competition has been contacted about the Board decision to continue to use the book. He indicated t hat he understood the Board 's pos it ion and was fine with the decis ion . The Board discussed shar ing the cost of th e flow er arrangements in the Library with the Fr iends of the Lib rary. 03 -25 Motion: That the Library Board share t he cost with the Friends of the Library for flower -1 - • • • arrangements to be placed in the Library for the year 2004. Moved by: Lorraine Cahill Seconded by: Bervette Williams The Motion passed . Mr . Long reminded those present that Board elections would be held at the January meeting. Mr. Long reminded the Board about Ms. Tatum's retirement party on Monday, December 22 from 2 -4 p.m. in the Community Room. On Monday, December 15 the City Council will recognize Mr. Ransick as the winner (tied) of the Colorado Book Award for poetry for 2003. Mr. Long wished those present a safe and happy holiday. Member's Choice Mr. Fish said he is ready to send off his application to School of Mines for next year. Finals are fast approaching. Ms. Pilgrim is counting the days until her son is home from San Diego for the Christmas break. Ms. Williams said she is spending her time chauffeuring her husband, George. All is fine. Ms. Dounay said it is a busy time. The School Board has 2 new members after the recent election. Ms . Dounay said she had attended the Annual School Board convention and found it to be very informative. She and her husband will be going to Irvine , California for Christmas to visit her daughter. Her daughter is currently interviewing for jobs after her post-doc studies. Currently she has no clear idea where she will be accepting a job. Ms . Dounay said that Ms. Tatum would be missed. Ms. Dounay said that her mother is now in remission, good news for the season. Ms. McGovern said that the books the Board had purchased to honor Ms. Tatum seemed like fun books. Ms. McGovern's husband illustrated the book, "Psychological Sciences" that is on display in the library. Ms. Cahill said she had survived the annual "family bake-off"! Thanks to her for the cookies this evening. Ms .Ottoson said she is ready for Christmas, as she had never put things away after last Christmas! Her son , Ben is on the football team at Tabor College and had the good fortune to be on the team that placed 151h in the nation for small colleges. Andrew, her older son is still in remission and getting stronger all the time. Ms . Clayton mentioned the reading journals that the Friends of the Library are selling for $7. Pick one up for stocking stuffer! Happy Holidays to all. The meeting adjourned at 7:35 p.m . -2 -
