Englewood Public Library Board
April 13, 2004
Because there was no quorum present, a formal meeting was not held. The following notes
represent an informal meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board.
Call To Order/Roll Call
Cha ir person , Karen Pil grim at 7:10 p.m, called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to
order.
PRESENT: C. McGovern, K. Pilgrim , C. Ransick, Y . Russell, and Youth Member, Jason Fish .
REGRETS: M. Adams (excused), L. Cahill (excused), CJ Cullinan (excused), J. Grazulis (excused), B.
Will ia ms (excused), Council member, Ray Tomasso (excused), and School Board member, Mary Dounay
(excused) .
ALSO PRESENT : Hillary Davis, Children's Librarian and Karin Martin, Children 's Librarian , Hank Long,
Library Director and Joan Clayton , Recording Secretary.
Ms. Davis and Ms . Martin "'!ere present to explain the Summer Reading Program for 2004. The kick-off for
this year's summer reading program will be on Tuesday, June 8 from 6 - 8 p.m. Hot dogs and the f ixings
will be served to those signing up for the reading program. It was asked if Board members might volunteer
to "cook" hot dogs for the kick-off. Those present felt this would be a good idea and thought as the June
8th date would normally be a Board meeting that instead of having a meeting it would be appropriate to
help with serving hot dogs at the reading program kick-off.
Another part of the summer reading program will be a once a week dance class for a period of six weeks .
There will also be two classes of clay making , which will be done by Becky Hammer on a volunteer basis .
Mr. Long acknowledged that the planning of the summer reading program takes a lot of time and effort
and he wanted Ms. Martin and Ms . Davis to know how much their efforts are appreciated. Mr. Long added
that in his thirty years of working w ith Ch il dren 's li brarians that Ms . Martin and Ms . Davis are among the
best he has seen.
Mr. Long said he would ask Ms. Linda LeBlanc who is doing the Teen Summer Reading Program and Ms .
Susan Pellegrini and Ms. Susan Kany who are doing the Adult Summer Reading program to come to the
May meeting to talk about those programs.
The recent Friends of the Library Book Sale realized a prof it of $1,689.
Mr . Ransick said he would try to br ing to the May meeting a potential applicant for the Youth Member
pos ition on the Board .
Mr. Fish said he is looking forward to hi s graduation on May 29th and his 18th birthday on May 11 .
