PRESENT: M. Adams , L. Cahill, C. McGovern , K. Pilgrim, C. Ransick, and Council Member, Ray Tomasso. REGRETS : CJ Cullinan (excused), J. Grazulis (excused), Y. Russell (excused}, B. Will iams (excused}, and School Board member, Mary Dounay. ALSO PRESENT : Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton , Recording Secretary. 04 - 1 O Motion: That the minutes of the May 11, 2004 meeting be accepted as written . Moved by: Colleen McGovern Seconded by: Chris Ransick The Motion passed . The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Friends of the Library is Wed., September 22 at 7 p.m . The Friends will be hosting Reggie Rivers on Tuesday, Aug . 17 at 7 p.m. to read from and sign his new fiction book , "41h and Fixed ". It was noted that the monthly statistics continue to rise. Books purchased by the Library Board for Ms. Mary Lou Tatum when she retired are in use. Ms . Jurgen's books are st ill arriving but w ill be put in the collection as soon as they have all arrived . Ms. Pilgrim thanked the Board for their help at the Summe r Reading Kick-off last month. Everyone had a good time . Mr. Long said that the 2005 Budget is being put together . The Board was thanked for their support of the extension of the Bookmobile lease with Douglas County . The addition of a public typewriter was mentioned. Summer Food For Fines program was very successfu l. Those present agreed that with the Winter Food Fo r Fines program beginn ing in November , 2004 the 2 food items per overdue fine was reasonable given inf lation . In add it ion those present felt that staff shou ld be ab le to refuse dented cans of food and inappropriate items when brought in by patrons . - 1 - Mr. Long reminded everyone that the Library would be closed the first week in August for weeding . Staff will be working Monday -Friday during the day, Sa.m . - 5 p.m. Mr. Ransick was thanked for his donat ion of his "broadside " which has been framed and hung near the Cool Cafe. The Library is still in need of volunteers to sign up Internet users. If anyone is interested please contact Darrell Chayne at 303-762-2557. Mr. Long commented that the "free CD's" had arrived and they are very disappointing with lots of duplicates and lots of obscure artists. Only a few of the titles seem appropriate to add to the collection. Member's Choice Mr. Tomasso said he would not be at the August meeting as he will be in Omaha getting married. He was wished well. He was asked about appointment of a new council member. This will take place on Aug . 2 after applications and interviews have taken place for the vacant position. Ms . McGovern commented on the recent article noting that 2/3 of American men do not read literature. She also commented on the recent study of the demographics of Englewood . A short discussion followed. Mr. Adams commented on the inability to discuss politics in the workplace. A discussion followed. Ms. Cahill said her summer has been good. Her daughter is in Texas at a youth medical conference and having a good time. Her son is in his 3rd quarter at the Art Institute of Colorado and doing well. • Mr. Ransick and his family had a wonderful time in England and Wales during the month of June. He said • the food was awful but the people and beer were great! He has agreed to do a travel program in February on his experiences . Ms. Clayton said her husband and daughter have had a wonderful trip , which is almost over, just 5 days left. They will be doing a travel program in October about their trip. Ms . Pilgrim said her daughter is working at Le Peeps as a hostess. Her son is home for the summer and working for Greenwood Village. There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8: 15 p.m. - 2 - •
