It was noted that the number of programs away from the Library were those programs held out on the Bookmobile . In the following discussion of programs Mr. Long said that this summer has resulted in a drop in attendance of teens or young adults. Several reasons were mentioned, though Mr. Long said that the Museum of Outdoor Arts is ex periencing a similar problem with the same age group . Students of this age need to be reminded where the Library is as well as drawn in to the Library. Some comments about why this age group is not here were: distance from schools, construction going on around the building and on site, Englewood High School has Internet terminals available after school , the requirement by the Library for Smart Card permission from parents; many parents simply will not come in to sign perm ission for their teens causing the teen not to have access to the Internet here at EPL. The Five -Year Plann ing Committee met on Monday, July 9 after having missed 2 months of meetings due to the illness of the facilitator, Gordon Barhydt. During the two-month hiatus focus groups were held as well as surveys done in the schools , with seniors in the community, with Women in Business from the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce and Neighborhood Watch Captains. There will be an in-house survey in September. Volunteers are needed from the Board to help administer this survey. The survey will be done the first 2 weeks in September; times and dates w ill be available at the Board meeting in August. Mr. Ransick indicated he would be interested in volunteering . Still to be accomplished in this • committee is the Mission Statement, Mission analysis , listing of goals and a "gap" analysis . A short discussion followed about the process of the reconsideration of materials. All agreed that the process works well. Ms. Pilgrim said that her daughter had found a book in the Young Adult section of the Denver Public Library that spec ifically said in the introduction was not for young adults . Emily too k it to the librarian and asked that it be moved. When Em ily went back a year later the book was still in the young adu lt sect ion . Ms . Pilgrim said her daughter was quite disgusted that Denver's policy was not as clear-cut as here at the Englewood Library . A discussion followed . Ms . Sm ithers encouraged all those present to sign up for the Adult Summer Reading Program . Ms . Smithers said that the Library staff always signs up for the program but cannot win prizes , letting the publ ic win the prizes. For the past seve ral summers the Library Board has provided prizes for the staff. Ms. Smithers said she would be willing to go to Cornerstone Books and get $10 gift certificates to provide for the staff prizes . 01 -15 Motion: That the Library Board provide $50 towards the purchase of 5 $10 gift certificates for prizes for the Library staff for the adult Summer Reading Program .
