Mr. Supinger reminded the Commission members of the meeting with the School Board on the evening of October 9, 1974, at 7:30 p.m. IV. COMMISSION'S CHOICE. Notification from the League of Women Voters of a meeting of the Corps of Engineers Colorado Citizens Committee to be held October 17, 1974, 7:30 P.M., Bemis Library, was received. The meeting will be concerned with the presentation of a preliminary recreation plan for the entire portion of the Chatfield-Hampden- South Platte River Area. Chairman Martin asked that the following statement be read into the Minutes: "I would like to see the Planning and Zoning Commission, as a body, become more involved in the development of the City of Englewood. I believe that one way this can be accomplished is by having an active and vocal membership on the Commission. There is considerably more to being a member of the Planning • • • -2- and Zoning Commission than merely attending the scheduled meetings. For example, members should be knowledgable of the general requirements for each of the zoning districts. "As an advisory arm of the City Council, the Planning and Zoning Commission should continue to render enlightened judgments on issues which come before it. Although the Planning and Zoning Commission does not get involved in the detail of implementing its own decisions, it should expect its staff to function in this capacity, The Planning and Zoning Commission can render enlightened decisions and recommendations by having study sessions periodically, by being aware of the actions of the City Council, and by taking a personal interest in the affairs of the City." Mr. Jones questioned progress on setting up a Master Street Plan committee? It was pointed out that a study session has been scheduled for October 15th, 7:30 p.m., to review the background information. Mr. Supinger informed the Commission he had written a letter to Mrs. Karen Ratz, initiator of the petition asking for return to two-way traffic on Bannock, informing her of the action of the Commission and Council concurrence that no action be taken until further studies have been completed. Discussion followed. It was noted that the staff hoped to have information from the Public Works Department, and to have an opinion from City Attorney Berardini regarding the referendum on one-way vs. two-way traffic. Mr. Jones commented that he would be out of town on October 15th. The meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m. A study session on Design Review and Bicycle Paths ensued .
