This merit appeal is concerning the reclassification of a Captain's position to a
Lieutenant's position and the current eligibility list for the Captain's
position.
Mr. Searl Brier, Personnel Assistant and City Representative addressed the board
and gave a brief explanation regarding the merit appeal process and this
particular issue. Mr. Brier stated that the City found this matter to be timely
and appealable and would like to have a hearing date set.
Michael Gruninger, EFFA President, asked the board to keep in mind the time frame
of the testing for the Lieutenant position. The Lieutenant examination is to
take .place on January 30, 1989 and the firefighters need a recommendation prior
to that date. These firefighters have been tested and place on an eligibility
list for a Captain position. The Ci ty administration is requiring the
firefighters to take another exam to qualify for the Lieutenant's position.
Commissioner Kerzic moved to set a hearing date for the merit appeal filed by the
firefighters on January 19, 1989 at 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Davidson seconded.
The motion carried .
The hearing was adjourned.
