Fleenor, Jr. William Belt Searl Brier, Personnel Assistant Michael Gruninger, EFFA President Anthony Jeffers, Appellant James Blumenthal, Appellant Ronald Boston, Appellant Ben Greene, Appellant Dave Lucius, Appellant Doc McKay, Appellant Chairman Harry Fleenor opened the meeting. A roll call was taken and a quorum established. Chairman Fleenor announced the purpose of the meeting was to determine timeliness and appealability of the merit appeal filed by the following firefighters: Anthony Jeffers James Blumenthal Ronald Boston Ben Greene Dave Lucius Doc McKay This merit appeal is concerning the reclassification of a Captain's position to a Lieutenant's position and the current eligibility list for the Captain's position. Mr. Searl Brier, Personnel Assistant and City Representative addressed the board and gave a brief explanation regarding the merit appeal process and this particular issue. Mr. Brier stated that the City found this matter to be timely and appealable and would like to have a hearing date set. Michael Gruninger, EFFA President, asked the board to keep in mind the time frame of the testing for the Lieutenant position. The Lieutenant examination is to take .place on January 30, 1989 and the firefighters need a recommendation prior to that date. These firefighters have been tested and place on an eligibility list for a Captain position. The Ci ty administration is requiring the firefighters to take another exam to qualify for the Lieutenant's position. Commissioner Kerzic moved to set a hearing date for the merit appeal filed by the firefighters on January 19, 1989 at 7:00 p.m. Commissioner Davidson seconded. The motion carried .
