He retained his Colorado Drivers License. Because of this alcohol-related plea, Arapahoe County has determined that Mr. McLain may not be licensed to drive an ambulance for a period of three years. Mr. Semple stated that the decis i on is not up to the City because Arapahoe County has jurisdiction over ambulance licensing. As a result of this determination, Mr. McLain was demoted. Mr. McLain' s representative , Richard Edison, agreed to basic facts. He noted that :Mr. McLain had immediately entered rehabilitation, that he had not lost his Colorado license, that there are many duties of the Driver Opero~_tor Engineer which can be performed by Mr. McLain, and that actually driving the ambulance is a small part of his required duties. In addition, the demotion substantially reduced h'_is salary and has caused personal. sacrifices not justified by his single offense. Mr. McLai~ has been an admirable employee for 18 years. John Garcilaso, Division Chief; Allan F. Stanley, Director of Safety Services ; and Keith Lockwood, Battalion Chief, agreed with the facts as stated above. The main problem with allowing :Mr. McLain to remain at his former level is that he would not be available to drive an ambulance in an emergency. His doing so could cause the City to lose its license to provide ambulance service, and could result in additional liability in case of accident. Having heard the arguments presented, the Board stated it would present its Findings of Fact on December 19 at 6:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 9:05 p .m.
