MINUTES
February 13, 1993
The regular meeting of the Board of Career Service opened at 8:30 a.m. The
meeting which had been scheduled for February 11 was not held due to an
accident in the family of Attorney Bruno.
Present: Members Fleenor, Kerzic, Davidson, Belt and Turner, and the Board's
attorney, Stan Damas.
Also present: Mr. Connolly; his attorneys, David Bruno and Janice K.
Hollenbeck; Randie L. Barthlome, Director of Administrative Services; the
City's attorney, Martin Semple; and Witnesses Thomas Vandermee, Jeff Jenks,
Sgt. John Wing, Officer Gerri Clark, Sgt. Thomas Bock.
Mr. Semple submitted corrected exhibits and reviewed the previous testimony.
Witnesses Vandermee, Jenks, Wing and Bock reviewed the investigation which
lead to the dismissal of Mr. Connolly for removing documents from the Police
Department. Testimony indicated that Mr. Connolly was the only officer other
than Officer Clark who had access to all the missing documents; that he had
been seen tearing a great deal of paper into the dumpster; and that when Sgt.
Wing went back to the dumpster, there was no loose, torn paper in the
dumpster. It was also testified that Officer Connolly had at first denied various
calls and conversations about the investigation.
Officer Clark described conversations in which Mr. Connolly urged her · to
admit that she had taken the documents, and in which she believed that he was
trying to blame her for the removal of the documents. She also testified that
he had made calls to her which he had at first denied making when questioned
by the investigating officers.
The next meeting was scheduled for March 4, 1993 at 6:30 p.m.
