At the meeting of August 13, 1991 the Commission discussed several topics.
They are outlined as follows:
1. Each of the five sub-committees presented progress to date concerning
their respective goals. They are as follows:
*
*
*
Fundraising. The 1st Annual Benefit Golf Tournament has so far
received $3,100 in verbal or written commitments for hole sponsor-
ship. Prizes for special challenges have also been donated.
Response to date has been light in terms of player numbers. It was
stressed that all members make an effort to sign up as many players
as possible to ensure success of the tournament. A sign-up sheet for
volunteers to help out during the tournament was circulated among the
Commission members.
Adopt-A-Street/Beautification. The litter control and prevention
program, Adopt-A-Street, is ready to implement September 1, 1991.
Flyers have been printed and several volunteer groups have expressed
interest in "adopting" a street. Design of the "Proud Property Pro-
gram" has been moved back to November of this year. Implementation
of the program would then take place in the spring of next year.
Public Relations. With the acceptance of the Clean, Green and Proud
Logo, the committee has gone ahead and produced camera-ready art for
a pamphlet, stationery, envelopes and tee shirts. Except for the
envelopes, all have been printed or are in the process of being
printed, and will be ready at week's end. In the recent edition of
the Swedish Medical Center publication, Connection, the Commission
was mentioned, along with a picture of Lee Means (enclosed). Also,
two articles will be released in The Englewood Herald and The Engle-
wood Citizen explaining the new Adopt-A-Street program .

* Education. The committee has contacted Dr. Walpole and several •
members of the Englewood School staff to discuss ways in which the
Commission can be of help concerning environmental education and lit-
*
ter prevention. The committee will be meeting soon with Dr. Walpole
, to suggest ways the Cammi ss ion can sponsor special events in the
schools centered around environmental awareness.
Municipal Solid Waste. It was noted that a proposal for a new pro-
gram, Yard Waste Reduction Project, was submitted to City Staff for
funding in 1992. Also, City Councilman Bill Clayton will be present
at the next meeting (September 10) to provide direction and input to
the Municipal Solid Waste Master Plan now being studied.
2. The Commission has been contacted concerning a possible program for graf-
fiti removal in the City of Englewood. Though the Commission questioned
the extent of the problem, it was felt that the issue should be addressed
before it becomes a major problem. It was agreed that the Commission
should lend support to Safety Services regarding the program in any way
feasible.
