At the February 9, 1993 meeting of the Clean, Green, and Proud
Commission several issues were discussed. Those discussions are
briefly outlined below.
I. New Members: Newly appointed members of the Commission were
introduced and welcomed. The new members are Daniel Jensen,
Beverly Maes, Bonnie Prado, Donald Roth and Susan Van Dyke.
II. MSW Plan: Glazier stated that there was some
misunderstanding regarding the Commission's direction pertaining
to curbside pickup of trash. Glazier understood from the last
meeting that the Commission wanted to continue forward with
recommendations, but that there should be a long educational
campaign to inform the public about all MSW issues and
justification of the Commission's proposal. However, it was the
consensus of the Commission that because there was no longer
strong support for the proposed curbside collection, that there
should be an educational campaign and then a public forum on the
issue before a recommendation be made to City Council.
Discussion ensued regarding how best to proceed. The Commission
agreed that a one or two page article should be printed in the
next issue of the Englewood Citizen explaining MSW issues in
Englewood, the process through which the Commission has gone
through to address those and finally, recommendations and

justification. In addition, a public forum would be announced to
gather the citizen input into the process. •
III. Future Issues in MSW: Glazier explained that the City has
applied for a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to
conduct a one day seminar to educate small to medium sized
businesses about environmental regulations. Potential sponsors
have been contacted as well as facilities in which to hold the
seminar. Glazier stated the decision from the E.P.A. is expected
sometime in the early spring. Staff was also going to meet with
the Director of Denver University's National Center for
Preventative Law to assess what specific audience should be
targeted.
The leaf and grass drop off program has been put off until a
potential sponsor or two can be identified. Currently, the City
has no current funds available to support the program. Glazier
did state, however, that he would continue to pursue funding from
alternative sources.
IV. Glad Bag-A-Thon: Glazier reminded the Commission of the
upcoming 4th Annual Bag-A-Thon. He stated that the date of this
year's event will be May l at the Plaza of Little Dry Creek. The
Commission decided to have a pancake breakfast for the volunteers
along with the environmental educate fair. The Commission also
felt it would be worthwhile if several companies could display
environmentally friendly products. Glazier requested that a sub-
committee be organized for this year's event. •
.IV. Other Business: Glazier announced that there would be a
reception with City Council to honor all the volunteers of the
Adopt-A-Street program. Glazier urged all members of the
Commission to attend.
Brochures, providing information regarding the 1993 Colorado Buy
Recycled Products Expo were circulated. Glazier suggested that
those Commission members wanting more information on recycled
products available on the market should attend.
Glazier requested that nominees for Chair and Vice-Chair be made
known to him as soon as possible for the Commission needed to
elect those positions at the next meeting.
