CLEAN, GREEN, AND PROUD COMMISSION

The following issues were discussed at the July 12, 1994
meeting of the Clean, Green, and Proud Commission.
1. communications and Bills: Glazier announced to the
Commission that Bonnie Prado was unable to continue with her
participation due to a scheduling conflict with her job. He
went on to state that City Council had appointed Ms. Andrea
Menin to the Commission as a replacement. Ms. Menin was
present and she was introduced and welcomed to the
Commission.
2. Municipal Solid Waste Planning: Maes reported that the
MSW Committee had met to begin formulating a strategy to
research various alternatives to the current MSW system.
She also stated that the committee will be drafting two
ordinances regarding mandatory trash hauling from
residential homes and requirements that haulers be mandated
to offer recycling services to their customers.

Maes also reported that the committee will be educating •
themselves about current MSW issues so that they can make
the most intelligent and proper recommendations to the
Commission and ultimately to city Council. In addition, the
committee will be researching the possibility of conducting
a survey to gather public perception about several MSW
issues.
3. Proud ProDertv Proqram: Glazier reported that the
committee has met and is in the process of revising the
informational flyer. He stated that four $20.00 gift
certificates had been donated by Englewood Garden Center to
be used as prizes. Glazier also stated that an additional
category will be added -Adopt-A-Garden.
4. Golf Tournament: Glazier reported that fifty-seven
players had signed up to date and that seven hole sponsors
had been secured. In addition, numerous prizes had been
donated by area businesses. Glazier stressed the need for
Commission members to sign up as many players and hole
sponsors as possible in order to have a most successful
tournament. He reminded all members who had signed up as
volunteers to arrive at their appropriate times.
s. Household Chemical Waste Collection: Glazier
reported that over one hundred and twenty households brought
material to the drop-off site on Saturday June 23. Two
hundred gallons of usable latex paint and 300 gallons of oil
based paint/solvents were recovered. Thirty gallons each of
gasoline and anti-freeze was collected. Fifty lead acid
batteries were also dropped off. Glazier thanked all the
volunteers who participated and reminded those who had
signed up for the August 13 collection of the 8:00 a.m.
starting time.
6. Other Business: Glazier requested direction from the
Commission regarding the lack of attendance by Ms. Sue
Fouts. He stated the Fouts has missed the last nine
meetings without excuse. The Commission suggested that
Glazier ask the Mayor to write a letter to Fouts requesting
her intent to continue as a Commission member.
