The following is a brief overview of issues discussed at the May 10, 1994 meeting of
the Clean, Green, and Proud Commission.
1. Municipal Solid Waste Proposal. Glazier discussed the upcoming presentation of
the proposed Solid Waste Plan at the May 23rd City Council session. He agreed to
present the Plan to the Council. Glazier stated he would mail copies to all commission
members along with the meeting time.
2. Education Committee. Russell discussed the recycling display that is currently
being exhibited at various locations throughout the city. He stated that the display will
soon need some maintenance to keep it looking presentable.
Russell also discussed the new Adopt-A-Garden plot located in Romans Park. He
identified the type of plants that would be most appropriate for the plot, and provided a
list of those needed to L. Means. Means agreed to provide the plants. Russell
circulated a sign-up sheet for weekly maintenance of the plot. All members were asked
to cover maintenance for one week during the summer.
A brief discussion was held about the Proud Property awards. There is a possibility
that a new category will be added, bringing the total number of categories to four:
Residential, business, multi-family and Adopt-A-Garden.
3. Golf Committee. Golombek and Van Dyke reported that planning for the •
commission's golf tournament on July 22, 1994 is well underway. Flyers for the
tournament will be completed by mid-May by city staff and provided to commission
members for distribution. A letter will also be sent to participants from last year's
tournament to help recruit players. Van Dyke presented a list of possible options for
participant prizes at the tournament. It was decided that towels and golf tees would be
the most practical prizes.
4. Household Hazardous Waste Collection. Glazier and Requist updated commission
members regarding the upcoming household waste collection efforts on June 18 and
August 13, 1994. A call for volunteers (for 4-hour shifts) was made through a sign-up
sheet for commission members.
