The following issues were discussed at the February 14, 1995
meeting of the Clean, Green, and Proud Commission.
1. New Commission Members: Glazier introduced the new
members appointed by City Council. He also stated that
Barbara Davis, representative from Swedish, had to resign
her position due to changes in her job. Davis has found a
replacement that is interested in being the Swedish
representative if Council will appoint that recommendation.
Glazier stated that he has forwarded that information to
Council.
A February 28 meeting was scheduled so that Glazier could
brief new members on Commission activities.
2. Municipal Solid waste Proposal: Glazier distributed
copies of a draft ordinance that was created since the
Commission's last meeting with Council. He went on to
explain that the ordinance proposes that each residential
home (up to four units) be required to have a trash service
and that trash haulers must off er their customers a
recycling service. Glazier also explained that each of
these proposals were part of the entire MSW plan that the
Commission designed and that both proposals were discussed
with City Council in 1994. At that time Council requested
that an ordinance be drafted for their review. Glazier
explained that the ordinance had be discussed with the four

current haulers and that they had no particular objections
to the plan. Glazier reminded the Commission that they
would be presenting the ordinance to City Council during a
study session on March 20, 1995. He urged all members to
attend. The Commission discussed the possibility of
incorporating a fee-on-volume, or unit pricing, of trash
pick-up. They agreed to also discuss this system with City
Council.
3. Other Items: Glazier announced that the city is
researching the possibility of undertaking the Spring Clean-
up/Good Neighbor Day again this year. Glazier would inquire
whether Waste Management was also interested in sponsoring
the program. Glazier polled the Commission as to their
interest in providing volunteers for the program. The Glad
Bag-A-Thon program was also announced and explained that it
would be conducted the same as last year -volunteer groups
would be given bags to do organized litter clean-ups. The
Annual Benefit Golf Tournament was also discussed. The
Parks and Recreation Commission has agreed to let the Clean,
Green, and Proud Commission undertake a shot gun start.
Discussion then focused on the ability of the Commission to
recruit enough players to warrant the new format.
