CALL TO ORDER Chair Goldsmith called the regular meeting of the Keep Englewood Beautiful Commission to order at 6:30 p .m . Present: Absent: Berens, Bippus, Brereton, D. Edwards, Ferber, Fish , Goldsmith, Huffaker, McCahill, Roth , White Stankorb (absent with notice) Nabholz (absen t without notice ) II. OATH OF OFFICE Chair Goldsmith administered the oath of office to Ms. Bippus , Ms . Ferber, Mr. Fish , and Ms. White. Ill. IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Action: Mr. Roth moved; Ms. Goldsmith seconded. The Minutes of the February 13 , 2001 meeting be approved. Motion carried. VOLUNTEER HOURS Ms. Fenton coll ec ted the volunteer hour forms. V. ELECTIONS Discussion ensued. Action: Mr. Huffake r moved; Mr. McCahill seconded: To elect Mr. Brereton as Chair. Motion carried. Action: Mr. Roth moved; Mr. Brereton seconded: To elect Ms. Ferber as Vice Chair . Motion carried. VI. HOLIDAY LIGHTING EVENT The Commission asked Ms. Fenton to contact Gary Tyson and ask that the "Lifetime Holiday Spirit" sign be changed to "Winner." ' VII. GOOD NEIGHBOR DAYS Ms . Fenton stated Ms. Newman attempted to contact Waste Management regarding the Good Neighbor Days program; however, Waste Management did not return Ms. Newman's calls. Ms. Fenton asked the Commission how they wished to proceed . Discussion ensued regarding approaching a different trash hauler for assistance, reimbursing citizens from Commission funds, running the program year round, and calling Waste Management again. Mr. Huffaker expressed concern regarding security with the reimbursement program. The Commission asked that Ms. Langon, interim staff liaison, contact Waste Management to determine whether the company is interested in participating in this year 's program. The Commission will discuss the matter further at the April meeting. Mr. Fish volunteered to chair the Good Neighbor Days event. VIII. ARBOR DAY Ms . Berens stated she would contact a few businesses for donations of flower and vegetable seeds. Mr. Huffaker stated South Suburban's Arbor Day event is April 21 at Cornerstone Park. The Commission expressed interest in having a table at both the Englewood and South Suburban Arbor Day events. Mr. Huffaker stated he would contact the Englewood Parks and Recreation Department to determine the date of their event. Mr. Huffaker suggested putting an article in the Citiz e n informing citizens of South Suburban 's event, as we ll as the Commis sion 's in v ol v ement. The Commission de c id e d to discuss the matter further at the April meeting. IX. COMMISSIONER'S CHOICE Ms . Berens stated she had been contacted by RTD to adopt the bus stop near her house. RTD supplies all the trash bags and provides a sign acknowledging the person /group who is responsible for keeping it clean. Ms. Berens stated that she would like to adopt that stop, and she would be responsible for keeping it clean . She asked whether or not she could put the Commission 's name on the "acknowledgement sign ." Discussion ensued . The Commission asked Ms . Berens to wait on the sign and to invite the RTD representative to the April meeting to discuss the program further. Mr. Edwards stated the 2001 golf tournament is scheduled for June 11, 2001. He asked staff to send out postcards to past participants. Action: Mr. Edwards moved; Mr. Brereton seconded: To expend necessary funds for the 2001 golf tournament. X. ADIOURN There was no further business to be brought before the Commission . Action: Mr. Brereton moved; Mr. Roth seconded: The meeting be adjourned. The motion carried ; the meeting adjourned at 8:30 p .m . 2
