CALL TO ORDER Chair Mccahill called the regular meeting of the Keep Englewood Beautiful Commission to order at 6 :40 p.m. Present: Absent: Staff: Berens, Brereton, Edwards , Fish , Goldsmith, McCahill , Nabholz, Nicholas, Roth Bippus, Ferber, Hanson, Losee, Olson , Stankorb (absent with notice ) Huffaker, Radosevich (absent without notice) Bill Donnell y, Staff Liaison Harold Stitt, Senior Planner John Voboril , Planner 1 II. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN Mr . Stitt and Mr . Voboril discussed the draft env ironmental goal statements for the Comprehens ive Plan with the Commission. Ms . Edwards suggested including recycling as a goal statement. Mr. Stitt explained the document includes goals statements and strategies, and asked the Commission to assist in developing objecti ves for each of the goals. Mr. Stitt suggested a possible objective would be creating an educational program util izing existing media outlets. Discussion ensued. Mr . Stitt asked the Commission to review the draft and work on additional objectives for the May meeting. Ill. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mr. Roth moved; Mr . Fish seconded: THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 12 , 2002 MEETING BE APPROVED . Motion carried. IV. VOLUNTEER HOURS Mr. Donnelly distributed and collected volunteer hour forms. V. COMMISSION RETREAT Mr. Donnelly stated the retreat went very well ; the Commissioners agreed. Chair Mccahill stated he felt it was very beneficial to new Commissioners. 1 ------------------------- • • • VI. GOOD NEIGHBOR DAYS Chair Mccahill stated the Englewood Citizen had an article regarding the distribution dates for Good Neighbor Days. Mr. Donnelly stated Waste Management is currently printing the coupons. Chair McCahill circulated the signup sheet for distributing coupons. VII. ARBOR DAY Mr. Donnelly stated he met with Dave Lee of the Parks and Recreation Division. Three schools, Charles Hay, Cherrelyn, and Clayton, are interested in receiving trees. The school district will match up to $2,500 for purchasing trees. The trees are 2.5 -3 inch caliber trees, and the Parks Division will plant the trees April 15 -19. Mr. Donnelly stated Tom Munds of the Englewood Herald has agreed to do an article on the event. Discussion ensued. Mr. Roth moved; Ms. Goldsmith seconded: TO APPROPRIATE $1,500 FOR PURCHASING TREES TO BE PLANTED AT THE SCHOOLS. Motion carried. Ms. Berens stated Flowerama is donating three to four dozen geraniums for the Arbor Day event on April 20. She is also seeking donations of seed packets. Mr. Roth suggested having a volunteer signup sheet at the Arbor Day event. VIII. GOLF TOURNAMENT Mr. Brereton stated letters and registration forms were mailed out to previous sponsors and players. He reminded the Commission that the golf tournament is scheduled for June 10 and circulated a signup sheet for volunteers. IX. CHAIR'S CHOICE Chair Mccahill distributed a letter from the Assistant City Manager asking for assistance with the Englewood Centennial Celebration. Chair Mccahill also distributed a letter regarding an informational meeting on the General Iron Works redevelopment. Chair Mccahill asked the Commission to review the letters and suggested discussing a presentation on the General Iron Works redevelopment at the next meeting . 2 • • COMMISSIONER'S CHOICE Ms. Berens stated she had received free RTD bus passes to distribute at the Arbor Day event. Once the Arbor Day event is over, she will work on gathering donations for the golf tournament. Ms. Nabholz apologized for missing the retreat; she had to work. Ms. Goldsmith stated she met with Mike Way of the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education regarding how the Commission could partner with other organizations, as well as managing a grant program.
