Motion carried.
Ill. VOLUNTEER HOURS
Staff distributed and collected volunteer hour forms .
IV. ARBOR DAY
Anthony Fruchtl introduced Steve Lasley and Betsy Mercer from the Parks Department. Mr.
Lasley stated that due to the drought, possible watering restrictions, and bud get constraints,
the Parks Department will not be giving away trees this year at the Arbor Day event or
planting trees at the schools. W ith the assistance of Kump Lincoln Mercury and Excel Energy,
the Parks Department has purchased 20 Liberty Elm tre es which are drought resistant. Excel
Energy employees will be planting those trees in the parks, and perhaps at the schools . Mr.

Lasley invited the Commission to be involved in that project. Further, the Parks Department
will not be purchasing flowers for the volunteer flower garden and flowers will not be planted
at the interchange. Mr. Lasley stated a number of the nurseries are not ordering bedding
plants and are nervous about the economic impact of the drought.
For Arbor Day, the Parks Department is working on educational handouts on xeriscape, lawn
tips, and drought resistant plants . Jackie agreed an educational focus was a good idea. The
event will be held at Cushing Park, probably on April 19.
Discussion ensued regarding water restrictions and xeriscaping. Ms. Mercer stated the Parks
Department is looking at xeriscaping in the parks for the future. Xeriscaping takes a lot of
water to become established, and then becomes less dependent on watering.
Janet stated she would contact the companies who donated seed packets and bedding plants
to see if they are interested in donating again this y ear . Mr. Brereton stated it would be
irresponsible for the Commission to hand out flowers or seed packets which require a lot of
watering. He suggested gathering donations for xeriscape plants.
Don asked if the flower gardens at Cushing Park would be planted. Ms. Mercer stated the y
would not. Don suggested the Commission purchase xeriscape materials that could be
planted on Arbor Day, creating an exhibition garden to be used as an educational tool on
xeriscaping. Ms. Mercer stated it would still require watering and would need to be discussed
within the Parks Department, and will let Anthony know if it is possible . Dean liked the idea
of a sample garden at Cushing Park . The Commission thanked Ms . Mercer and Mr. Lasle y
for the update.
With regard to watering restrictions, Ms . Nabholz stated Englewood has a lot of water, but
wants to be politically prudent. Currently, City Council is considering voluntary water
restrictions, 3 days a week. However, that changes on a weekly basis; a definite decision
should be made by the end of April.
Jackie introduced Susan Jean who participated in the Leaf and Tire Event. Ms. Jean provided
a brief overview of the importance of compositing. The Commission asked her to attend the
Arbor Day event to demonstrate compositing.
V. TELEPHONE BOOK RECYCLING
David stated the two and half containers were filled, and the program has ended . He
suggested a month delay in the delivery of the container for next year 's program since
more phone books were just delivered.
VI. GOOD NEIGHBOR DAYS
Anthony stated he spoke with Waste Management, who is willing to donate coupons again
this year. May 1 7, May 22, June 14, and June 19 were scheduled as distribution dates.
Jackie will have a volunteer sign-up sheet available at the April meeting.

VII. GOLF TOURNAMENT
David thanked Ron Smith for volunteering to co-chair the golf tournament with him. He
asked members to provide either Ron or him with the names of potential sponsors and
players. An information postcard will be sent in April to last year's participants .
VIII. MARKETING
Eric distributed examples of a business card and poster he designed to assist the
Commission in name recognition and branding. Discussion ensued.
Anthony stated Daryl called him with information on advertising. The AMC Theater in
Highlands Ranch charges $160 a week to advertise, and each person sees the ad 3-6 times.
Another theater charges $600 for a 2-3 month run. Also, bus benches in the city are
handled b y an outside agency, not RTD , and he was unable to obtain any information .
RTD will allow free advertising in their bus shelters.
IX. CHAIR'S CHOICE
Chair Ferber introduced Han Pham who is interested in volunteering. Ms. Pham stated she
is new to Englewood and is interested in rec y cling . She asked if it wou ld be possible to
have recycling bins located next to public trash receptacles. She also asked if city offices
recycle. Anthony responded that the city recycles paper. He will discuss the issue of
recycling b i ns in the public right of way with the Public Works Department. Anthony also
stated he needs to be the contact person for these types of issues , rather than
Commissioners calling various city departments or outside organizations.
Chair Ferber thanked Ms. Pham for her interest in the Commission . She asked all the
Commissioners to provide one or two names to David or Ron for the golf tournament.
X. COMMISSIONER'S CHOICE
Jackie stated she spoke with the Englewood Chamber of Commerce regarding their
welcome packets. The Commission would need to provide 500 copies each month and
the cost is $100 per month. The deadline is the 15 1
h of each month. The newsletter is
mailed to Chamber members. Discussion ensued. Staff asked for clarification as to
whether the $100 cost was for welcome packets sent to new Englewood residents and
businesses or for an insert in the Chamber newsletter. Jackie responded she wou ld contact
the Chamber for clarification . Staff indicated it has fax numbers for a number of
Englewood businesses and could fax information on the golf tournament when the time
was appropriate.
Jackie also reported that RTD doesn't have room for inserts in the information they send to
new residents.

Dean welcomed the new members .
Ron asked if the Commission could coordinate landscaping businesses and homeowners to
trim trees hanging into the alley. Anthony stated it was a Code Enforcement issue.
Ms. Nabholz stated her son, Nicholas, would not be able to be a youth liaison. She also
asked staff to contact the Mayflower Church regarding the availability of gloves and trash
bags to clean the Platte River on March 22.
Don stated the litter survey needs to be completed in the spring.
Eric asked for direction on the business card and poster. The Commission tabled discussion
on the matter to the April meeting.
XI. STAFF'S CHOICE
Anthon y distr ibuted the revised KEB brochure, Board and Commission Roster, Ne ws Fla sh,
and a memo from Leigh Ann Hoffhines regarding volunteers for a television program
discussing water conservation. Anthony stated Commissions who choose to attend should
not represent themselves as a voice of the City of Englewood or the Commission .
XII. ADIOURN
There was no further business to be brought before the Commission. The meeting
adjourned at 8:20 p .m .
