KEEP ENGLEWOOD BEAUTIFUL October 12 , 2004 CALL TO ORDER The Keep Englewood Beautiful Commission met in Regul ar Sessio n on October 13 , 2004 at 6:45 P .M. Present: Absent: Staff: Don Roth , Cornelia Humphreys , Ann Nabholz, Olga Wolosyn, John Brick, Jim Woodward, Jackie Edw ards , Eric Crotty, Daryl Kinton, Dooly Gehr Valerie Passerini , Linda Olson (excused absence); Lee Truong (unexcused ab- sence) Anthony Fruchtl , Planner II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES September 14 , 2004 Minutes of the September 14 , 2004 m eeti ng were approved up on a motion by Don Roth, seco nd by Mr. Crotty , with the following amendment: 1. Correct spelling of Dooly Gehr ' s name. III. VOLUNTEER HOURS Volunteer-hour forms for August were filled out by Commission members and turned in to staff. IV. 5-K RACE It was suggested that a letter be sent to Tom Munz at the Englewood Herald thanking runn ers, sponsors, and the community for their participation. The letter should also mention the up com - ing le af and tire program . The letter will be written by Chairman Eric Crotty. V. HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS MATERIALS ROUNDUP Mr. Fruchtl passe d out a cost analysis and manifes t for the round-up. Mr. Gehr asked if the article appearing in the Den ver newspape r had appeared in more th an one place . Mr. Fruchtl said it had not. It was mentioned that over 100 cars were turned away . Mr. Fruchtl said that they had been contacted and some had their own program, while others chose not to participate. This might also increase costs. There was an outstanding balance to be paid for by city funds available for KEB programs. Next year may provide a chance for latex paint recycling at-cost. Don Roth asked if the State might provide mercury recycling. Mr. Fruchtl stated that the state no longer provided that service. Ms. Edwards expressed concerns about the deficit t his program would incur next year. Mr. Fruchtl said this should be made up by fundraisers . Mr. Gehr asked if there were city funds available for this purpose. Mr. Fruchtl mentioned there might be some possibilities. Ms. Wolo- syn said she would check accounts and report back. VI. GOLF TOURNAMENT Ms. Nabholz reported she had been in touch with Susan VanDyke concerning sponsors for the tournament. She was contacting the Golf Tournament chair from Littleton Western Welcome Week to get some ideas for the KEB tournament. Ms. VanDyke will be invited to the November KEB meeting . Mr. Gehr expressed concern about the return on th e investment of time in the golf tournament. Ms. Wolosyn mentioned that some in city government felt that this fundr ai ser was a good pro- gram for business in Englewood. Mr. Brick asked if there were other commissions, committees, or agencies in Englewood city government who worked with or promoted business that might be willing to help with this tour- nament. No one mentioned any. Ms. Nabholz requested help in calling Sports Authority and Safety Kleen for sponsorship . Mr. Brick said he would do this. Items mentioned to be sought from sponsors : • Golf-related goody bags • Golf ball sleeves • Golf tees • Prizes (longest putt -putter; longest drive-driver) Also to be discussed in these calls would be 5-K Sponsorship . • T-Shirts • Awards • Gift Certificates It was stressed that mailings for both the Golf Tournament and the 5-K Run should go out as soon as possible. BY-LAWS Ms. Edwards led a discussion on KEB by-laws. Some possible areas for change discussed were absentees, notice of meetings , quorums, and standing committees. Mr. Brick sugge sted that by- laws be an agenda item so that those with concerns can bring them up over the next few months. VIII. HOLIDAY LIGHTING Mr. Fruchtl explained how the holiday lighting contest worked and passed around a sign -up sheet for judging holiday lights. Ms. Passerini , not in attendance, was placed on the list as the sixth volunteer. Judging will be held the evening of December 7 , 2004. Mr. Crotty suggested that a digital camera be taken along to show pictures when m aking the re- port to City Council. IX. LEAF AND TIRE Leaf and tire round-up dates are October 30 and November 6. KEB will provide volunteer help on S aturday, November 6. The location will be at Belleview and the South Platte River. Com- missioners volunteered to help on November 6 on either an 8 a.m . to 10 a.m. shift, or on a 10 a .m . to 12 noon . shift. XI. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjo urn by Mr. Gehr, second by Mr. Brick.
