CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Keep Englewood Beautiful Commission was called to order at 6:35 p.m . in the City Council Conference Room of the Englewood Civic Center. Members present: Members absent: Staff pre se nt: Linda Olson , Eric Crotty, Don Roth , Dooley Gehr, Jacqueline Edwards, Valerie Passerini , Jim Woodward, Cornelia Humphreys, Ann Nabholz John Brick ; Daryl Kinton (excused); Olga Wolosyn Anthony Fruchtl, Planner II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES October 12 , 2004 Edwards moved : Pas seri ni seconded: The Minutes of October 12, 2004 be amended to reflect correct s pelling of Dooley Gehr's first name . The motion carTied. Al so noted for future reference: Humphreys is spelled with an "e". III. GOLF TOURNAMENT 2005 Tournament M s . Susan Van Dyke , former KEB member, former Englewood Mayor, and member of the Englewood Rotary Club was in attendance for discussion regarding the 2005 Golf Tournament. Points raised regarding success of a fund raising effort include : > Raffles > > > > > > > > > > 100 % support of "group" --takes more than 2 or 3 people to support the effort Rotary Club Golf Tournament earns $10,000 a year Choose a venue that is enticing to consumer (nicer golf course) Englewood Golf Course may be overused Past tournaments held at Arrowhead and Fox Hollow Expense of golf course ($125/ea in 1994 at Arrowhead) Red Hawk Course -can bring breakfast in At Red Hawk $100 of $125 fee goes to prizes and cost -covers entrance fees, carts, prizes, nice burger buffet for lunch M ake money -sponsorship money Some years are hot/some years a re not H :\GROUP\BOARDS\Keep Englewood Beautiful\Minutes\2 004\KEB-11 -09-04 .doc l • > > > > > > > > > > > > > > "' ,. > > Find contact, make the calls , visit the places -give the personal touch Don 't expect money to come in without a follow-up $250 hole sponsor Received $1,000 sponsorship Lunch sponsor --$500 from hospital Make a point to recognize sponsors Swedish Hospital donated $1,500 to Rotary tournament; Rotary Club sponsored "Shots for Tots" program Going through Costco for juice and breakfast items Goal: $5,000first year if come together to change venue 60 golf players is a reasonable number to shoot for Last two weeks before tournament is normal Nine out of ten times celebrities won't show up even though promised to do so; not the way to go There are 1,300 to 1,500 businesses. Don't limit contacts to Englewood addres ses Run 5-K or do golf tournament Some members lack enthus iasm for golf tournament Red Hawk contact -Gary Lee . Red Hawk would be excellent venue choice Some support from busines ses in Castle Rock because tournament wa s held there Ms. VanDyke thanked the KEB membership for the opportunity to speak to the Commission . M s . Olson asked Commission approval to pre s ent the golf tournament to her so phomore class a s a project for them. A handout included: > Specific hours > Plan layout > Golf tournament set for June 6 (Monda y) Approval by show-of-hands was given to Ms. Olson by members of the Commi ss ion . Commission members expressed concern that follow-up letters be sent out. IV. 5-K RUN 2005 Run Mr. Woodward led discussion regarding the 5-K Run, and noted the following: > William (of Eclectic Edge) suggested that if we plan to use him in 2005, notice should be given to him in December, 2004. > 5-K Run would be on Saturday, August 27, 2005 > The Annual Fun-fest will be held that weekend, and will tie in with the 5-K Run > An "internal meeting" is scheduled for Tuesday, November 16 to go over the proces s and submit suggestions for improvement > Re-do the Action Plan for the 2005 5-K Run > Mr. Woodward will forward his notes to Dooley Gehr and Anthony Fruchtl > Mr. Fruchtl is using the KEB Action Plan to plan this next year's Action Plan > Sale of T-Shirts at the Recreation Center -suggested the price be dropped to $2 each H :\GROUP\BO ARDS \Keep Engle wood Bea utiful\Minutes\2 004\KEB -11 -09-04 doc 2 • v . KEB BY-LAWS Gehr moved: Nabholz seconded: Consideration of KEB By-Laws be deferred to the December meeting. The motion carried. VI. HOLIDAY LIGHTING COMPETITION December 7 , 2004 Information and applications for the holiday lighting competition have been dist1ibuted to the Englewood Recreation Center, the Malley Center, the Englewood Public Library , and in the Community Development Department at Civic Center, as well as publicized in the Engl ewood Citi ze n.. Judging will be on December 7 1 \ judges will meet at the CityCenter at 6 :00 p.m . on that date to view the applications. Presentation of awards is scheduled at the C i ty Counc il m eeting of December 20 , at 7:30 p .m . P articipation by the business community will be promoted this year. Mr. Gehr is chairing the sub-committee for holiday lightin g thi s year, a nd will be re spo ns ibl e for c o ntactin g businesses to encourage participation. VII. NON -ATTENDANCE • Discussio n ensued regarding the non-a ttendance of meetings by Member Truong. Article IV , Se c tion 3 of the KEB By-l aws addresses the removal of members for non-a ttendance . • Gehr moved: Edwards seconded: Per Article IV , Section 3 of the KEB By-Laws, Mr. Truong s hall be re- moved as a member of the Keep Englewood Beautiful Commission. The motion carried unanimously. VIII. ADJOURN Nabholz moved: Roth seconded: The meeting be adjourned. The motion carried; meeting declared adjourned at 7:40 p .m .
