KEEP ENGLEWOOD BEAUTIFUL
February 8, 2005
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Keep Englewood Beautiful (KEB) Commission was called to order at
6:30 p.m., Chair Crotty presiding.
Present:

Brick, Crotty, Edwards, Fraietta, Gehr, Gorsky, Olson, Passerini, Sampson,
Woodward, Wolosyn
Humphreys, Kinton, Nabholz (all excused absences); Arterburn
Bartnick (called to inform staff of refusal to accept appointment)
Also present: Fruchtl, Staff Liaison
All members introduced themselves; newly appointed members were welcomed to the Commis-
sion . It was stated that Mr. Fruchtl will meet with new members following closure of the regular
meeting.
It was noted that the Englewood City Council, at a recent meeting, approved $100 for National
Junior Honor Society to help the Tsunami victims.
II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
January 11, 2005
The Minutes of January 11, 2005 were approved on a motion by Mr. Gehr, seconded by Ms . Ol-
son ..
Ill. VOLUNTEER FORMS
Members of the KEB submitted completed Volunteer Hour forms to Mr. Fruchtl for record com-
pilation for Keep America Beautiful.
IV. 5-KFUNRUN
Ms. Passerini led discussion on the 5-K Fun Run scheduled for August 2ih. Topics covered by
the discussion included:
• Advertising direction
• Targeted advertising -specific participants (seniors, handicapped, youth, runners)
• Brochure distribution
• Reaching targeted audiences
• Publicize in local newspapers
• Reasons for 5-K Run in combination with Englewood's Fun Fest
• Funds from Run to help defray expenses for Household Hazardous Waste Roundup
• Possible names for the "Fun Run"

• Determine if there is a date conflict with KEB 5-K Run and Englewood Cancer Race
• Add "walk" or identify race as either a "run" or "walk"
• Role of race organizer -attendance of organizer/promoter at next KEB meeting
• Use Neighborhood Watch meetings to publicize 5-K Run
• City's WEB site used to advertise 2005 5-K Run
• April 30 deadline for advertising in City Recreation Magazine
• Subcommittee 5-K Run to meet at Old Dublin, Amherst and Broadway
V. lVUSSION STATElVIENT/GOALS
Chair Crotty led discussion of the Mission Statement, and the goals of Keep Englewood Beauti-
ful. The need to focus on educational services to schools --elementary, middle, and senior high
schools --in the Englewood School District was discussed.
A copy of Section 9 of the 2003 Englewood Comprehensive Plan (Roadmap Englewood) was
included in the packet for this discussion. The Comprehensive Plan sets forth goals and objec-
tives for meeting "Environmental Quality", and include increasing environmental awareness in
the community , meeting with various Englewood groups, improving community safety, cleanli-
ness, visual beauty and civic pride, promoting recycling and adaptive reuse of waste materials
and structures, conservation of energy and improvement of air quality , and improvement of wa-
ter quality and conservation among others. Subcommittee of Gehr, Olson, and Gorsky to address
educational opportunities/research
Gorsky moved:
Edwards seconded: KEB review the goals established in the Roadmap Englewood.
The motion carried. Ms. Olson, Ms. Wolosyn, and Ms . Edwards will review the goals on behalf
of KEB and report at next meeting.
VI. STAFF CHOICE
A request regarding times and lengths was discussed.
VII. COlVIl\tUSSIONER'S CHOICE
The need to "establish norms" was discussed.
The Commission agreed to order 10 trees for planting on Arbor Day.
Mr. Gorsky stated that he was proud to be a member of KEB, and it appears the work with the
Commission will be enjoyable.
Mr. Fraietta expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve, to meet different people, to
work for improvement of the community and the sense of union with others doing the same.

Mr. Crotty discussed the need to refocus on the mission of the KEB, and thanked members for
their interest.
Mr. Woodward welcomed new members, and stated that it is nice to get outside and get involved
with the various KEB programs.
Ms. Wolosyn mentioned the "Back to Bach" concert that is up-coming.
Ms . Passerini thanked members for volunteering to help on the 5-K Fun Run.
The meeting was adjourned on a motion by Ms. Edwards, and seconded by Mr. Fraietta.
