KEEP ENGLEWOOD BEAUTIFUL
OCTOBER 9, 2007
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Keep Englewood Beautiful (KEB) Commission was called to
order at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room, Vice Chair Cross presiding.
Present: Ken Bronson, Nicole Kelly Bundgaard, Sunshine Cross, Brett East, Chris
Hoagland, Holly Montague (entered at 7 pm), Tom Rothe, Tom Winthrop
Absent:
Staff:
Laurel Dygowski, Danielle Kent, Jeff Rovner (Excused)
Joseph Jefferson, Linda Olson (Unexcused)
Audra Kirk, Staff Liaison

II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chris Hoagland asked that the Minutes be corrected to reflect his comments more
accurately. The Commission has a mandate to bring problems relating to the environment
to the attention of City Council; therefore, cats killing birds and other wildlife is something
that falls under the Commission's pervue. This issue is an appropriate subject for the
Commission to comment on .
Brett East moved:
Ken Bronson seconded:
Motion carried.
Ill. OLD BUSINESS
A. Education Sub-Committee
The goals of the committee are to:
TO APPROVE THE SEPTEMBER 11, 2007 MINUTES AS
AMENDED.
1. Work with the library to have a lecture series quarterly or twice a year
2. Start with Bishop Elementary School to begin an educational program and then
expand to the other schools
3. Place articles in the Englewood Citizen on the environment and helpful tips.
Commissioners are needed to write articles.
B. Adopt a Spot Sub-Committee
Chris Hoagland stated he drove around and found there isn't much litter around the City.
The Litter Index supports that finding. It would be easier for him to drive around, stop, and
pick up the litter himself rather than organize people to pick up the litter. The opinion of
the committee is that it is easier for them to pick up the trash rather than organizing a new
program and recruiting volunteers. Regarding the RTD stops, he did not find any litter

around those stops. The effort involved in setting up a program to control litter would take
more energy than carrying a couple of bags and picking up the litter when you see it.
C. Hazardous Waste Roundup
A total of 219 cars went through the gate; 7 4 Englewood, 145 Littleton, that is 82 cars more
than last year. Co-pays in the amount of $3,500 were collected. Twenty-three thousand
(23,000) pounds of electronics was collected. The total cost of the project has not been
calculated, but the invoice from Safety-Kleen is $33,000. Littleton contributes all their co-
pays from their citizens and an additional $12,000. Audra Kirk shared a note from a citizen
expressing her appreciation for the program, the Commission and the City.
D. South Platte River Clean Up
The area was fairly clean . The trash was picked up at approximately 10:30 am and then the
bags where still there at 6 pm Most of the trash was up along the roadway or the bike
path. Chris Hoagland suggested placing the shopping cart retrieval number on the website.
E. Leaf & Tire Drop Off
There are enough volunteers signed-up for the event. Littleton staffs the event on
November 3 and the Commission provides staffing on November 10.
F. Recycling List
Chris Hoagland pointed out the recycling list on the website is outdated .
IV. NEW BUSINESS
A. Graffiti Video
The Commission watched a video created by a 15-year old Englewood female student that
lives in the 3800 block of Acoma and works at Pirate's Cove. The video, set to music,
depicts graffiti from her house to Pirate's Cove. Audra Kirk stated she was working on
obtaining a release to allow the video to be placed on the City's website; however, there
may be a copyright issue with the song. It was the Commission's consensus to link or place
the video on the Commission's web page if the issues can be worked out. Discussion
ensued.
B. Good Neighbor Days
Audra Kirk discussed how many coupons were distributed on each day. The Commission
discussed changing the name of the program.
Nicole Kelly Bundgaard moved;
Ken Bronson seconded:
Motion carried .
TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE GOOD NEIGHBOR
DAY PROGRAM TO "WASTE MANAGEMENT DUMP
DAYS"

the Household Hazardous Roundup .
VIII. COMMISSIONER'S CHOICE
A. Tom Rothe apologized for missing the last couple of meetings; he had surgery on his
foot and just got off crutches. He looked on the website to reapply for the Commission,
but couldn't find the form. Audra Kirk stated the appointments are not until February, but
she would check and let him know.
B. Ken Bronson suggested inviting the girl who made the video to the next meeting.
C. Nicole Kelly Bundgaard stated she will be attending a Keep Western New York Beautiful
meeting in Buffalo, New York. She will update the Commission when she returns.
D . Chair Holly Montague reminded the Commission that the December meeting is the
Holiday Lighting judging .
The meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m .
