The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room. C h air

April 8, 2008
Motion:: Approve Minutes, Moved by Tom Rothe, Seconded by Chris Hoagland
Vote: Motion carried by unanimous roll call vote (summary: Yes= 7).

Chris Ho ag land reported that he did not h ave tim e to work on the program due to
Code Enforc e m e nt commitments. Howeve r, h e re ported that th e City h as a
volunteer citizen's committee that is the li aison to the Waste Wate r Tr eat m en t Plant
(WWTP) and he wishes to obtain th e ir permission b efo re h e proceeds. If h e is ab le
to obtain permission , he wou ld re ad th e Ordinance which c rea t ed the co mmittee
and their authority as it pertains to this issue. H e will th e n m ee t with the WWTP
lead c h e mist; h e h as a few ide as such as inte rvi ew in g th e pharmacies and poss ibl y
applying for an EPA grant.

• Englewood Clean Up Days
(Great American Clean Up)
It was a good expe ri e n ce even though it was windy. The focus was the Littl e Dry
Creek path. The next cleanup will be in September, and the focus will b e the path
alon g the South Platte Riv er.
• Education Subcommittee Update
Community Days with Bishop Elementary is sc h ed ul ed for Thursday, June 5, 8:30 am
-6 pm; volunteers are n eeded. Th e day begins with a FunRun and a garage sa le will
be held throughout the day. Proceeds from the ga rage sa le will go to t he schoo l.
Donations will be accepted at the sc h oo l a week before th e eve nt.
Jun e 11 , 2 pm is "Tr eas ur ed Tra sh W ed n esdays" which is th e Libr ary program fo r th e
ch ildren's read in g ki c koff for 4 weeks. Brett is cons id e rin g doing an ed u cat iona l
p ro gram around "Red uce, Reuse, Recycle." If Commissioners h ave ideas for th e
program, they sh ou ld e-mail Brett. Th e age range is 5 -11 years o ld .
• Arbor Day
Audra c ir c ulated a lette r from the Parks Department thanking the Commission for
participating in the event. The Commission expressed interested in participating
aga in in 2009.
• W at e rl ess Urin als
Tom Roth e h ad no add ition al inform at io n. Mr. McCaslin will bring the issue to City
Council. Tom su ggested placing one urin al in City H all as a trial.
• Community Garden
Th e Parks Dep artment is willing to g iv e the Commission a 4'x4' space in front of th e
Recreation Ce nte r to plant flowers and m aintain throughout th e summe r. The
flowers are provided . Th e Commission would n eed to plant th e fl owe rs o n
Saturday, May 1 7 and then weed the ga rd e n o n ce a week. A m ark e r will be p laced
in th e ga rd e n indi cat in g the Commission is m aintainin g that space.
It was the co ns e n sus of the Commission t o adopt th e garde n.
N ew Business

The event is on August 23. Th e Commissi o n w ill ha ve a 1 O'x1 O' space and w ill n ot
be c har ge d for th e space. The Commission n eeds to provide a c hildre n 's activ ity

and a giveaway. Brett East and Tom Rothe volunteered to be on the
subcommittee.
• Englewood Dump Days
Audra Kirk circulated a signup sheet. The first distribution date is Jun e 7.
