April 14, 2009
1. Meeting Opening
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room. Chair
Rothe presiding.
2. Roll Call
Present: Dianna Miguez, Linda Olson, Tom Rothe, Theresa Sabrsula, Susan Bayless,
James Garnett, Jennifer Jones, Jim Gibson, Tom Winthrop, Bob Mccaslin (Not votin g),
Audra Kirk (Not voting), Cal Grant, Mila Pilz, Jimmy Pinzenscham, Gary Nordlander .
Absent/Excused: Sunshine Cross
3 . Approval of Marchl 0, 2009 Minutes
Motion: TO APPROVE THE MARCH 10, 2009 MINUTES., Action: Approve, Moved by
Susan Bayless, Seconded by Jennifer Jones.
Jimmy Pinzenscham stated he did not need to meet with Gary regarding Earth Ni ght.
The Minutes were approved as amended.
Vote: Motion passed (summary: Yes= 13, No= 0).

• 4 . Old Business
• Comprehensive Plan -The Commission reviewed and dis c uss e d Sec ti o n 9,
Goals 1 and 2. It was the consensus of the Commission to draft a lette r ask in g
City Council and other Boards and Commissions how KEB c an ass ist th em in
meeting environmental goals within the community.
It was discussed holding a composting class, and askin g Hom e D e p o t t o d o n at e
materials . Gary Norlander volunteered to teach a class at th e Farm er's Market.
Bob McCaslin will call Home Depot to request donations .
The Commission is to review Goals 3 and 4 for discussion at th e n ex t m ee tin g.

• Education /GAC Subcommittee Update -The school meeting w as canc ell e d and
will not be rescheduled. Bob Mccaslin volunteered to follow-up with th e
schools.
• Arbor Day -Keep America Beautiful provided the Commission w ith bl ank
banners for the members to decorate. A sign-up sheet will b e ava il abl e at
various Commission events to recruit volunteers.
• Rec Center Garden Update -Flowers will be planted rath e r than vege t abl es . • • Garden Tour -Information on the tour will be in th e n ex t En g l ewood Citiz en .
The tour will be held July 25, with applications due July 13.
• Big Dry Creek Clean-up -The event is scheduled for May 2 to ce lebrat e th e 3 0
year anniversary of the Big Dry Creek Trail. Everyon e should m ee t at Pro g ress
Park behind Wolfe Camera. T-shirts and lunch will be provid ed . A 5-1< run w ill
be he ld the following day, May 3.

• Community Garden -A committee has been estab li shed and th ey are see kin g
approval from City Council. It will take approximate ly 1.5 years to ge t th e
program up and running. The committee will seek th e Commis sio n s involvem ent
after approval has been obtained.

• Trash Hauling -Discussion ensued regarding the c itizen surv ey qu es ti o ns
regarding trash hau ling and recycling.
• Electronic Recycling -The event is scheduled for June 27, 8 am -noon .

• Englewood Dump Days -The event was renamed to Englewood Clean-up
coupons .

The Commission had nothing further.

There was no further business to be brought before the Commission . The meeting
adjourned at 7:45 p.m .
