1. Meeting Opening
The me et ing was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in the City Council Conference Ro om . Chair
Rothe presiding.
2. Roll Call
Present: Audra Kirk (Not voting), Bob Mccaslin (Not voting), Brett East, Gary Nordl and e r,
James Garnett, Jennifer Jones, Jim Gibson, Jimmy Pinzensch am, Mil a Pilz, Sunshine Cross,
Susan Bayless, Tom Rothe, Tom Winthrop .
Absent/Excused: Cal Grant, Dianna Miguez, Linda Olson, Th eresa Sabrsula .
3 . Approval of April 12 , 2009 Minutes
Motion: Approve the April 1 t 2009 Minutes as written., Action: Approve, Moved by Su sa n
Bayless, Seconded by Sunshine Cross.
Vote: Motion carried by un animous roll call vote (summary: Yes= 11 ).

4. Old Business

D 2003 Comprehensive Plan
Regarding Section 9, the subcommittee met. Jimmy is composing an essay to pres e nt
to the Commission regarding the Commission, what it currently does, and w hat it
should be doing.
D Education Subcommittee
Bob spoke with David Henderson and Peg LaPlante with the school district. Th e
distr ict is working on "Go Green" and will invite the Commission to pa rtic ipate wh e n
school restarts.

D Arbor Day
The event was overstaffed and not well attended, possibly due to the prev ious
cancellation and lack of signage. The Commission discussed changing their role n ex t
year to more educational. The Commission also suggested the size and type of trees be
advertised. Bob will take the Commission's concerns and suggestions to t he Parks and
Recreation Department.
D Big Dry Creek Clean-up
The event was very successful. The clean-up is only conducted once a year due to
heat and bugs.
5. New Business

D Letter to other Departments
Tabled until next meeting.
D Composting Update
Home Depot donated two composters, valued at $69 each. The Commission will
write a thank you letter to James Knudsen at Home D epo t.
D Englewood Cleanup Coupons
The distribution dates will be placed in the Citizen and on th e City's webs ite. The
Commission set distribution dates for June -August. Coupons will be distributed at
the Farmer's Market, in addition to one other Saturday each month at the Civic Center.
6. Staff's Choice
Single-stream recycling will begin at City buildings on June 1. The goal is to then expa nd it
to the public.
7. Council Member's Choice
Bob had nothing further.

8. Commissioner's Choice
D Chair Rothe resigned from the Commission due to health issues . Chair Rothe
enjoyed his time on the Commission and watching it grow. Commissioners
thanked Tom for his dedication to the Commission and he will be miss ed .
D Sunshine reminded Bob to bring the CHAFA pens.
D Jimmy made one banner and will work on another .

D There is an open slot for a composting class offered by Denve r Urban Gardens .
The class is Saturday, May 16, 9-11 am at 13 111 and Colorado. If anyone is interes t ed
in signing up, contact Susan.
D Commission will discuss the method of giving away the composters at th e n ext
meeting.
D The garden is planted at the Recreation Center. Sunshine volunteered to be the
backup for weeding.
