1. Meeting Opening
MINUTES
September 8, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 6:30 p .m. in the Public Works Conference Room . Chair
Bayless presiding.
2. Roll Call
Present: Susan Bayless, Jennifer Jones, Gary Norlander, Mila Pilz, Jimmy Pinzens ch a m ,
Theresa Sabrsula, Tom Winthrop, Audra Kirk
Absent/Excused: Brett East, Linda Olson, Bob Mccaslin
Absent/Unexcused: James Garnett, Dianna Miguez, Cal Grant
Guests: Marcia Budde, Pacesetter Roadside Assistance
Donna Schnitzer, Community Garden and Cultural Arts Commission
3. Approval of August 11, 2009 Minutes
Motion: TO APPROVE THE AUGUST 11, 2009 MINUTES AS WRITTEN. Moved by Ther es a
Sabrsula, Seconded by Gary Nordlander. Motion carried.
4. Guests

Donna Schnitzer, a member of the Community Garden Steering Committee, asked for
volunteers and donations for the garage sale, a fund raiser for the community garden. Donn a
provided the Commission with upcoming events and information regarding the Community
Garden. The goal is to have the garden functioning by 2010. They need to raise $22 ,000 a nd
would appreciate the Commission's support. The current need is assistance with fundr a isin g
and public relations.

Marcia Budde of Pacesetter, which is part of AAA, spoke to the Commission regardin g their
free, year-round battery recycling program. They will pick-up the batteries from the Hou sehold
Hazardous Waste Round-up and appreciate the opportunity to be involved. They can also
schedule free pick-ups.

Review Section 9, Goal 5 of the 2003 Comprehensive Plan
The matter was tabled to the next meeting.

Household Hazardous Waste
Audra reminded volunteers to bring a chair . Breakfast and lunch are provided.
Letter to other Departments
The matter was tabled to the next meeting.

Weeding on Broadway
Weeding the planters along South Broadway is a good idea, but it is the end of the sea son .
Gary spoke on the importance of the Commission forming partnerships with Englewood
businesses. Commissioners suggested hand delivering the letter to the businesses and
attending local business organizations to educate them on the Commission's functions .
Discussion ensued. Audra will ask that the Commission be placed on the next Allian ce for
Commerce for Englewood (ACE), Business Improvement District, and Chamber agenda s.
Community Garden
The Commission discussed what role it wanted to take with the Community Garden . It w as the
consensus of the Commission to not take on fundraising as a group. The Commis sion decided
to offer the committee support in the form of mentoring, education, and public relations .
Susan will contact Donna to update her with the Commission's decision.

Trash Coupon Distribution Update
The majority of the coupons were distributed . It was a good idea to distribute at the Farmer's
Market and give away the composter. The remaining coupons will be distributed at the
Household Hazardous Roundup.

Keep Littleton Beautiful Update
The City has two citizen-based groups and is not ready for another g roup.
6. New Business

Composting at the Recreation Center
Audra received contact information if the Commission wanted to hold compostin g cl asses at
the Malley Center and Recreation Center . Scheduling at the Recreation Center nee d s to be
done 4-6 months in advance. Hampden Hall is another poss i bility for classes.
City Wide Event List
The matter was tabled to the next meeting.

Audra wil l email the roster to current Commissioners . She asked Commi ss ioners to e m ail her
with any corrections.

• Tom reminded Commissioners to bring gloves to the Hazardous W as t e eve nt .
• Gary stated that Channel 9 is holding a free , electronic r ecycling on Satu r d ay un t il they
fill up .
• Susan stated the education committee needs to meet.

There was no further business to be brought before the Commission. The meetin g adjou rned
at 7 :35 pm .
