1. Meeting Opening
The meeting was called to order at 6:35 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room . Chair
Bayless presiding.
2. Roll Call
Present: Sunshine Cross, Dianna Miguez, Linda Olson, Theresa Sabrsula, Tom Winthrop, Susan
Bayles!;, James Garnett, Jennifer Jones, Gary Nordlander, Bob Mccaslin, Audra Kirk, Cal Grant,
Mila Pilz.

3. Approval of October 13, 2009 Minutes

Motion: Approve the October 13, 2009 Minutes as written. Moved by Gary Nordlander,
Seconded by Cal Grant. Motion carried .
4. Guest Speaker
Arlene Friend, Science teacher at Englewood High School, manages the environmental club
at the school. After an education campaign last year, each Englewood school now has a
recycling program. The high school was recently awarded a grant for a greenhouse; she
hopes to grow fruits, vegetables, and flowers for the House of Hope and retired individuals
within the community . Gary volunteered to teach the students how to compost in the
spring. Discussion ensued regarding how the students can become involved in educating
the community on recycling and environmental issues and apply to be appointed to the
Commission as a youth member .

Brian Hirt recently moved to Englewood, wants to become involved in the community, and
the work the Commission does is important to him. Before he applies to the Commission,
he wanted to attend a meeting.

• Comprehensive Plan
The Commission reviewed Goals 6 and 7 of Section 9 of the Englewood Comprehensive
Plan. Goal 8 will be reviewed in January.
• Composting Classes
The Commission will hold a composting class at the Recreation Center on a Saturday in
March, 10 am to noon . The class is open to all ages .
• Leaf and Tire Drop Off
Staff updated the Commission with the totals on the event .
6. New Business

• Holiday Lighting
•
Judging will be held on December 8 in lieu of a regular Commission meeting.
Commissioners interested in judging will meet at 5:45 pm in the parking garage by the
library entrance. Council will present awards on December 21.
Eco -Day Event
A sub-committee was formed to plan an Eco-Day Event for 2010. Englewood High
School and the Community Garden committee will be invited to participate as well.
7. Stc1ff' s Choice
Staff thanked everyone who volunteered for the Leaf and Tire event.

8. Commissioner's Choice
Chair Bayless thanked the guests for attending. Ms. Olson has enjoyed serving on the
Commission, and will support the Commission while on City Council.
9. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm .
