February 09, 2010
1. Meeting Opening
The meeting was called to order at 6 :30 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room. Chair
Bayle ss presiding . Chair Bayless welcomed Ms . Townley to the Commission .
2. Roll Call
Present: Dianna Miguez, Tom Winthrop, Susan Bayles s, James Garnett, Jennifer Jones , Gary
Nordland e r , Audra Kirk, Cate Townley, Jill Wilson. Br ett East
Absent/Excused: Sunshine Cross, Theresa Sabrsula, Cal Grant .

3. Approval of Minutes

Motion: Approve the November 10, 2009 Minutes as written, Moved by Gary Nord lander,
Seconded by Jennifer Jones . Motion carried .
b . January 12, 2010
Motion: Approve the January 12, 2010 Minutes as written, Moved by Gary Nordlander,
Seconded by Dianna Miguez. Motion carried .
4. Garden Tour 2010
Participants from the 2009 garden tour were not present. The garden tour date for 2010 will be
discu ss ed at th e March meeting . Suggestions for marketing the event were placing a banner
acro ss Broadway and expanding the tour to include more than just gardens, such as beehives
and chicken coops .

5. Community Garden
Donna Schnit ze r gave the Commission an update on the Community Garden . Funds have b ee n
re ceived from City Council and Denver Urban Garden s (DUG) and they are ready to break
ground . Chair Bayless is now part of the steering committee . A public meeting will be held on

March 2 in Hampden Hall for anyone interested in a garden plot; applications are available .
Priority will be given to Englewood residents .
6. Old Business

• Composting Classes -Tom, Gary and Susan will meet to finalize items for the
class at the Malley Center on March 20.
• Community Garden Update -Jill is excited about the garden; DUG is a great
partner. Discussion ensued regarding the Commission having a plot. It was the
consensus of the group not to take on a plot since they will be maintaining of a
larger flower garden for the Parks Department.
7. New Business
• Commissioner Responsibilities -Chair Bayless distributed books from Keep
America Beautiful outlining responsibilities of Commissioners.
• Recycling and Single Trash Hauling -Commissioners discussed single-stream
recycling within the City and tackling the issue of researching the City contracting
with one trash hauler. It was the consensus of the Commission to table
assuming the task of researching the City contracting with one trash hauler for
the entire City.
8. Staff's Choice
• AAA Recycling is hosting a "Recycle Your Battery" event. It is a state-wide event;
they are offering pickup as well as drop off at various locations . Larger batteries,
such as auto, boat, etc. are what will be accepted.
• Audra distributed information on a free Sustainability and Transportation fair
being held on February 24.
• The Parks Department recognition luncheon for flower garden volunteers will be
held on March 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the Recreation Center. Any Commissioners
who are able to attend should contact Chair Bayless .
• Audra will submit a press release regarding the 2009 President's Award from
KAB .
9. Council Member's Choice
Jill had nothing further .

Tom will contact Englewood High School to ask if the students are interested in helping out
w ith th e community garden.
