HomeMy WebLinkAbout2010-04-13 KEB MINUTES• • • MINUTES April 13, 2010 1. Meeting Opening The meeting was called to order at 6 :30 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room. Chair Bayless presiding. 2. Roll Call Present: Sunshine Cross , Dianna Miguez, Tom Winthrop, Susan Bayless, James Garnett, Jennifer Jones, Gary Nordlander, Audra Kirk, Cate Townley, Jill Wilson. Brett East, Ther esa Sabrsula Absent/Excused: Cal Grant. ll1l 3. Approval of Minutes Jennifer was in attendance at the last meeting, but inadvertently shown absent on the Minutes . ~ Motion: Approve the March 9, 2010 Minutes as amended. Moved by Gary Nordlander, Seconded by Sunshine Cross . Motion carried. 4. Old Business • Composting Classes: Nineteen people attended the classes and the information was well received. The next class is planned at the Community Garden. It provided an avenue for recruiting volunteers for the Commission and its events. • Arbor Day: The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 17 . • Earth Day : The Big Dry Creek Cleanup with South Suburban is scheduled for Saturday, April 24. Audra circulated the sign-up sheet. Lunch, a T-shirt, and water bottle will be provided . • Englewood Cleanup Coupons : Coupons will be distributed June 12 and 26 in front of the library, 10-11 :30 am. Dates will be advertised in the Citizen and on the website . • [?] 5. New Business • Garden Tour: The garden tour is scheduled for July 10. There will be a $10 entry fee to cover the cost of the yard signs, which are reusable . The Commission may accept donations as long as receipts are given; all donations will cover future garden tour expenses . • Bees : Code Enforcement is developing a procedure for a zoological license and are considering offering classes in the fall on bee keeping. Discussion ensued . • Volunteer Records: Audra reminded Commissioners to turn in volunteer hours. The City Manager's Office asked for all Board and Commission volunteer hours for the past year . KEB Commissioners volunteered a total of 387 hours over the past 12 months. • Flower Garden: Cate and Susan looked at the depot garden plot . It is very large and does not have good soil. They suggested taking the garden in sections, with each section having a theme . Cate has a meeting with Denver Botanical Gardens to investigate whether their students have ideas on plants and a planting plan. Discussion ensued regarding watering systems . • Community Garden : The plots are all sold and there is one person on the waiting list . Planting will begin May 1, and a ribbon cutting is tentatively scheduled for May 15. • l!l1 6. Staff's Choice Audra had nothing further. 7. Council Member's Choice Jill had nothing further. 8.
