HomeMy WebLinkAbout2025 Resolution No. 022 Page 1 of 2 RESOLUTION NO. 22 SERIES OF 2025 A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE ARAPAHOE COUNTY MULTI-HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN 2025–2030. WHEREAS, the Denver metropolitan region has historically experienced natural hazards resulting in loss of life, property damage, and adverse impacts to natural resources; and WHEREAS, the implementation of hazard mitigation strategies reduces the long-term risk to people, property, and critical community assets from future hazard events; and WHEREAS, the Englewood City Council previously adopted the Denver Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was approved by the Colorado Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), through Resolution No. 3, Series of 2011, and subsequently adopted the Arapahoe County Hazard Mitigation Plan 2015-2020 through Resolution No. 105, Series of 2015 and the Arapahoe County Hazard Mitigation Plan 2020-2025 through Resolution No. 4, Series of 2021; and WHEREAS, the City of Englewood, in coordination with Arapahoe County, has participated in the development of the Arapahoe County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan 2025–2030 (“the Plan”), which identifies and assesses natural hazard risks and establishes mitigation strategies to reduce those risks; and WHEREAS, the Plan has been prepared in accordance with FEMA requirements set forth in 44 C.F.R. § 201.6, which establish the criteria for local hazard mitigation plans and require approval by FEMA for a jurisdiction to remain eligible for certain federal mitigation grant funding; and WHEREAS, the City of Englewood is a local jurisdiction covered by the Plan and has provided opportunities for public comment and community input during its development; and WHEREAS, the City Council has reviewed the Plan and affirms that the Plan will be updated at least once every five years, or as otherwise required by FEMA; and WHEREAS, EMC Code §7-7-4(C)(8) requires the City to annually review and formally adopt the Arapahoe County Disaster (Hazard) Mitigation Plan; and WHEREAS, FEMA has issued its approval of the Arapahoe County Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan 2025–2030, contingent upon official adoption by the governing bodies of the participating jurisdictions, including the City of Englewood. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ENGLEWOOD, COLORADO, THAT: Section 1. The City of Englewood hereby adopts the Arapahoe County Hazard Mitigation Plan, as approved by FEMA, as this jurisdiction’s Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan, and resolves to execute the actions in the Plan as the Official Disaster Mitigation Plan of the City in accordance with EMC §7-7-4(C)(8). The City of Englewood will make a copy of the Arapahoe County Hazard Mitigation Plan available on its website, and one copy shall be retained in the Office of the City Clerk for inspection by the public during regular business hours. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to submit this Resolution of Adoption to Arapahoe County and FEMA to complete the approval and adoption process for the Plan.
