I am a patron o f the Englewood Recreation Center . I have been a patron
for over eight years. Four years ago I had a son and was thrilled to find that
the "Re c Center · provided babysittin g for parents who wanted to ·work.-
out ·. I have been using the babysi t li ng serv ice regularly for the last three
years.
They are closing the sefvice at the end of the year . Apparently, this
decision was made in a vacuum . No parents were consulted . no
employees were consulted. and no alternatives were looked at. In this age
of empowerment and total quality management. where ·customers ·
(patrons) help determine the quality of serv ic06 provided to them and as a
result services are improved . the decision would have been d ifferent. and
presumably better, if all parties were consulted .
I le.now that city budgets are t ight and that more serious programs are
being cut d u e to the current economic times, but consider the followin g
alternatives to eliminating the babysitting service and ju dge for yourself if
they w ould be reasonable solu t ions.
l ) decMGM the a valabllly: Currently. the "Rec Center· provides 3
hour babysitting sessions every week.day morning and evening
and on Saturday momings.
2) lncNGM the tat9: To "break even · the hourly rote would hove t o
