Director Kuhn reported to the Conwnlssion that an application was submi
ed to Athletic Business magazine for the Englewood Recreation Center whi ch
won one of th five merit awards that wer issued nationally. R crea ion C n·
tr Dire tor Ballard and the architect of the center went to Atlanta, Go, ia
lo receive th award. An article, including photographs of the cen r, ap ·
pars 10 the January lssu of Athletic Business.
Director Kuhn reported that the Parks and Recreation divisions ar cur -
r ntly In the proc ss of staff reorganization. He stated that effec ive
January 1, the two positions of Assistant Director of Parks and Recr a 100

ter. In discussion, the Corrmlsslon offered other suggestions for wa ll hang
ings in the lobby of the recreation center, Including pictures of pas Co. 1s -
sio n chairman (now hanging 1n the Parks and Recreation office), and plaque s
s howing Corrmisslon memb rs and their terms on the Corrmission, or honor ath
letes of [nglewood Schools and Senior Olympics. The Commission agreed ha
would not be a good practice to allow private citizens to display their tal
ents In City facilities for the purpose of soliciting funds, and agreed to
present the matter of honoring Engl wood athletes to the City/School Corrmi t e
for further discussion.
Under Corrmlssioner 's choice , Corrmissloner Neyer asked about needed r ·
pairs to the racquetball courts at the recreation center . Director Kuhn
st ated that repair to th wall s ls sch duled for the fir s t w ek i n F bruary.
Only three courts will be repaired at a ti so tha there will b courts
availabl at all tim s.
