SUBJECT: STUDY SESSION JANUARY 29, 1979
I am enclosing materials for your study session next Monday night, January 29
at 5:00 p.m. in Conference Room A. Dinner will be served at that time.
In discussion with Mayor Taylor, it was agreed that the first item on the
study session agenda would be the discussion of improvements to Clarkson
Street. We briefly informed you about this last Monday after the dinner with
the Housing Authority and would like to go into more details as to the alter-
natives we have discussed with Cherry Hills. Kells Waggoner and Gary Diede
will be present. The next item would be the appointments to Boards and Com-
missions. A report from the Council committee that interviewed the applicants
last Saturday is enclosed, along with the complete list of all those who hav e
applied.
Also enclosed for your information are:
1. Calendar of Events.
2. Information concerning St. Patrick's Day Parade.
3. Letter to Council from Paul Blessing.
4. DRCOG Digest.

I respectfully request consideration fo~ one of the openings on
the board of adjustment and appe als.
I have been in business in En glewood for 10 years and am also a
resident . During those years I have been active in the community and
in particular have served on several Chamber of Commerce committee dealing
with zoning and also served on one of the pUL~inp, and zoning commissions
committee to update the comprehensive plan.
There are several reasons I am seeking this appointment, the most
important being my concern with the power of this board, Because of
this power the board if not careful can significantLv alter the lonf
range plans. Additionally this board is quasi-Judicial and as such take
testimony in the same manner as a court and according to the Zoning
Ordinance is to make decisions based on findin gs of fact. Due t o thi~
status any individual wishing to appeal a decision can only ~o to the
courts which is expensive, time consuming and in some cases finRncially
i mpossible,
I have in the past appeared before this board an~ at times have
criti cized their decisions, I am now asking the council f or an opo urtunity
t o serve on this board and see the other side,

on t he Boar d of Dire ctor s f or t he Downtown Developme n t Authority (I do
no t live in the d istric t ) I was informed that a position was again open
o n the plann i ng and z on ing c omm i ssion. The r efor e, I am submi tt i ng mysel f

I n the 10 mon t hs since my last attemp t a t se c ur ing t h i s posi t ion, I have
added seve ral practical experience items t o my existing abilities, as
we l l as a c ontinuing increased inter est in community planning.
1 . I have go ne t h r ough the pr ocess of submi tt ing a reques t and
ob ta ining a varianc e on my own home for a n addition wh i c h I
plan to s t a rt s oon.
2. I have been wor king with the Build ing Depar t ment a nd t he
Community Dev e lopme nt Committe e in Little t on on the r estor a t ion
and conversion o f a n old home to r etail and o ffice space i n the
downtow n area .
3 . Fo r both 1 an d 2 I ha ve, or am in the process of pr oviding
a l l wo rking dr aw i ng s, work scheduling, city dep artme nt int e r facin g,
subcontr ac t ing, et c., for the jobs.
4. Have discussed with one Lit tleton City Council membe r my i deas
on t he developmen t of their dow ntown area and t he spec i al at tributes
it possesses with respect to the ac c e l erated new de velopments in the
south end of t he me tropo l itan area.
S. I am prepar ing to take a refresher course in engineering in order to
obtain my Pro fessiona l Engineer license by next summe r .

I am a relatively new resident in Englewo d (July 1st, 1977), however I
have lived in the Denver metropolitan area for sixteen years. Although I
have no direct expe rienc in the fields of city planning and zon ing , I
do have various transferable skills which I believe to be directly
appl icab le, plus a definite interest in these areas. As s uch, I wi sh to
be considered for one of the two vacancies on the Plann ing and Zoning
Comm ission .
My mos t applicable skills and interests are :
1. I am an Engineering Integration ~tanager with the Nartin Marie tta
Corporation . In that capacity I am responsibl e for the integration
through design -build and launch of new missile systems . This
task requires detailed planning and control of many associate
contractors and the United St a t es Air Force, not only for all
engineering and test activities but safety , cost and contracting
as well.
2. I have a B.S. degree in mathematica l physics. However, I started
my original career planning as an architec t and have con ti nued that
interest for many years.
3 . Durin g the last fifteen years I have had some experience in home
remodeling. I have remodeled the three hom es we have liv d in and
various others which I have owned as rentals. This activity was
necessary not only to provide additional room and convenience , but
also to satisfy a personal desire, stemming from my continued
architectural interest, to upgrade the quality of personal living .
4. Sys tems description 3nd analysis from requirements definition
and verification to implementation is also a sustaining interest
with me. In todays world, the complexity of all of man's systems
is sometimes over pow ring on the surface . How ver, when approached
through some of the new systematic logic process s of requirements
and interface definition and subsequent management functional,
organizational and operational methods, visibility and control can
be accomplished for the benefit of all •

in the Englewood schools. I have work ed wit h the bo y scouts , the
cub scouts, and the Old Timers Baseball team, and many church organi-
za tions. I an1 prese ntly the chairman of the Englewood Animal Control
Comm ittee and wish to contribute more to th e City of Englewood .

Having been a residen t of Englewood for 18 years , it has been of much
interest to me to be able to contri bute i n so me way for the many fine
services received from the city.
Unfortunately, unt il my husband died 4 years ago and my 88 ye ar old fathe r
was placed in a nursing home (p lus a full time job at Samsonite for 25
years), there has never be fore been time to ful fill my desire al ong this li ne.
Since book , libraries, and music are my main interests, your notice
grabbed my i nterest and I tho ught----well, here's my oppo rtunity:
Our li bra ry , in my opin ion, is the very fines t --the quality is superior
throughout . The staff is the most cooperative and know l edgeable in the
metropolitan area (I wo uld only hope that expans ion is in the of fi ng).
My current position at Samsonite i s with the Finance Depar ment ; res -
ponsible for disburseme nts of over one -ha lf mil lion dollars a year.
Other positions have been Manager of Customer Service , develop i ng and
managing a secretarial service, and on down to my first job as a clerk.

SUBJECT: St. Patrick's Day Parade
For the first time since 1973, the St , Patrick's Day Parade
will actually be held this year on March 17th and the Parade
Committee hopes Englewood will participate ,
Mr. Shannon called this morning and said they are a bit late
in getting notices out, but they do hope to receive commitments
shortly after the first of February in order that they can work
out the line up , I told him I would bring it to your attention
and that we would get back to him as soon as possible,
If we do enter the Horse Car, I think it would be nice if
everyone riding in it wore green, Maybe we could buy or
rent some green bowlers for the guys, including the driver,
and the gals could wear a green jacket, dress or blouse,
The entry fee has been increased to $125 this year, As
soon as we notify Mr . Shannon that we will be in the Parade,
he will send us the entry form and information ,
