A11 subsequent sections wi11 have to be renumbered consecutive1y. §22.5 SIGN CODE §22.5-1 Genera1 Statement. The City P1anoing and Zoning Commission and City Counci1 recognize that signs are a necessary means o£ visua1 communication for the convenience o£ the pub1ic and that it is the right o£ those concerned to identify their businesses, services or other activities by the use of signs . However, the Commission and Counci1 are a1so aware that citizens of Eng1ewood are concerned about adopting and enforcing sound environmenta1 practices, inc1uding the strict contro1 o~ signs~ and 1imiting signs to those which are accessory and incidenta1 to the Use on the premises where such signs are 1ocated. Xt is to this end. that the fo11owing goa1s are set forth and the regu1a- tions in this section are deemed necessary : a. To protect the pub1ic ~rom hazardous conditions that resu1t ~rom signs which are structura11y unsaSe. obscure the vision of ~otorists. and/or compete or con£1ict wit.h necessary traf£ic signa1s or other traffic regu1atory devices. b. To encourage signs which are we11-designed and compatib1e with their surroundings and with the bui1dings to which they are appurtenant. c. To provide a reasonab1e ba1ance between the right o£ an individua1 to identify his business and the right of the pub1ic to be protected against the visua1 discord resu1ting from the unrestricted pro1iferation of signs and simi1ar devices. §22. 5-2 Scope and App1ication of this Section. These regu1ations sha11 govern and contro1 the di.sp1ay. construction. erection. a1teration , remode1ing. en1arging , moving operation and m.ainten.ance o£ a11 signs permitted within a11 zone districts estab1ished by this Zoning Ord inance and any amendments hereto. If there is a conf1ict between the regu1a- tions in this Section and any other ordinance or regu1ation. the more stringent regu1ation sba11 app1y. Signs sha11 be kept in good repair. consistent with best practices as gen- e r a11y accepted in the City o£ En.g1ewood a s determined by the Code Enforcement Division. §22.5-3 Ma:i..nt:.enance. Every sign. inc1uding those specifica11y exempt from this section in re~pect to permits and permit fees. sha11 be ~aintained in good structura1 condition at a11 times.
